children's reach. Fuel fumes are highly infl ammable.
• Check the air fi lter: make sure that it is in good conditions and free from dust and dirt. To reach the fi lter consult the engine use and
maintenance manual.
WARNING: do not use the generator without the air fi lter: the life of the engine and of the generator set will be reduced!
• Activate the battery (if supplied): fi ll the compartments to their maximum level with a 30/40% sulphuric acid solution and wait at
least two hours before using.
Battery location: see fi g. 1, 2 and 3

WARNING: do not touch the acid and do not smoke nor use open fl ames: battery fumes are highly infl ammable. Keep the
acid out of children's reach.
STARTING THE GENERATOR SET (6.2):
Before starting the machine it is necessary to:
• Make sure that no appliance is plugged into the generator.
• P12000THEPI – P12000SHEPI models: activate the choke on the control panel for cold starts.
How to start:
• Electric start generators: turn the key onto "START" position and release it as soon as the engine starts.
• Recoil start generators (P3500 – P4500 – P6000 – WP180 YANMAR engine):
1) Set the accelerator control – placed on the engine (see fi g. 4) – downwards (max rpm).
2) Lower the valve lifter lever placed on the engine, as shown in fi gures 5 and 6.
3) Pull the recoil handle gently until resistance is felt, then pull forcefully.

Fig 6 (P6000)
WARNING: Do not let the recoil handle rewind quickly. Guide it to prevent damage to the automatic winder.
• Once the engine is started, take back the lever to its original position.
• The generator set is now ready for use.
NOTE: If the generator set is used at high altitudes or temperatures, the air-fuel mixture ratio may be too rich. This will cause higher
consumption and lower performance. Check the actual power of the generator set by means of the following correction factors:
TEMPERATURE: Power drops an average of 2% every 5 degrees centigrade above a temperature of 20 degrees centigrade.
ALTITUDE: Power drops an average of 1% every 100 metres a.s.l. Above an altitude of 2000 m, contact the engine's manufacturer
service centre to reset the combustion mixture if necessary.
