Adjusting the Electrodes
Select the desired program version in the PAULA program. Adjust each electrode so that the
patient can maintain the muscle signal for approximately two seconds at a point slightly above
the value ON (Fig. 8).
8.4 EVO 2 (Electronic Voluntary Opening)
range coding plug = left Electrohand
black coding plug = right Electrohand
The EVO mode has been developed to facilitate control of the Electrohand for children who
cannot differentiate between two muscle signals.
Opening of the Electrohand 2000 is controlled by one 13E200 Electrode.
The stronger the muscle signal, the faster the Electrohand opens.
When the myo-signal stops, the motor automatically closes the Electrohand.
The electrode is usually placed over remnant extension muscles.
If this is not practical, the Electrohand can be controlled by any other available myoelectric signals.
Grip force in the EVO mode can be adjusted.
Connecting the Electrode
The electrode cable must be plugged into the electrode connector plug 1 or 2 of the 4 in1 Con-
troller LS.
Adjusting the Electrode
Select the desired program version in the PAULA program. Adjust each electrode so that the
patient can maintain the muscle signal for approximately two seconds at a point slightly above
the value LOW (Fig. 7).
Attention:
Allow the patient to rest during the adjustment of the electrodes, otherwise muscle fa-
tigue will lead to inconsistent results and the therapist will tend to adjust the electrodes
with too high a sensitivity.
The electrodes are to be placed only on intact skin and with as much electrode-skin
interface as possible. If strong interference by electrical appliances still occurs, please
check the positioning of the electrodes and – if need be – reposition them. If the interfe-
rence cannot be eliminated, please contact an Ottobock Service Facility.
9 Handling the Batteries
For operation of the Electrohand 2000, use only fully charged 757B13 batteries. To increase
the useful life of the batteries, the 4 in1 Controller LS automatically turns itself off whenever the
battery is discharged.
An intelligent battery management alerts the patient to the decreasing charging condition of the
battery as follows:
Stage 1: O peration of the hand is very slow, and even with maximum electrode voltage only
minimum grip force is achieved (maximum myoelectric signal).
Stage 2: The hand can be opened, but once it stops no further movement is possible.
