Each athlete will have her / his own optimal
alignment, which relates to the individual's running
style. Optimal alignment is critical in order to reduce
energy expenditure and eliminate excessive muscle
and ligament strain while running.
• Check for best symmetry of gait
• Stride length can be affected by A-P alignment
socket to foot
• Vertical deflection is in the average between 50mm
( 2" ) and 75mm (3" )
Trouble shooting
Exclude reasons related to socket fit.
Try to achieve symmetry in running as close as
possible .The symmetry in running should be
assessed in the maximum speed phase .
Duration of loading the prosthesis is longer
• Foot module is too soft
• Prosthesis is too short
• Foot too far anterior aligned
Action:
• Shift load line posterior
Duration of loading the prosthesis is shorter
• Foot module is too stiff
• Prosthesis too long
• Foot too far posterior aligned
Action:
• Shift load line anterior
Moving the foot in A-P position will affect the hip
flexion, stride length and trunk motion
Further recommendations:
For track & field events shoes usually feature spikes:
The sole of the spare shoe is then attached to the
prosthetic foot in the following way:
• Cut off the sole area where the spikes are
attached (F)
• Remove the insole
• Attach leather on the back side of the part prepared
• Sand the surfaces (G)
• Attach this to the prosthetic foot at the ground
