12.3.2 Filter holder / Shutter

Only IM-3F / IM-3FL4
The microscope is equipped with a filter
holder / shutter located on the back side of
the microscope. (Fig. 51)
The filter holder has three positions: ① filter
holder for ND filters, ② empty hole, ③ shutter.
12.3.3 Inserting a ND filter
The bleaching of the fluorescent specimen caused by
excessive energy of the HBO bulb can be delayed by
inserting an ND (Neutral Density) filter in the optical
path, provided that this filter does not adversely affect
the observation.
1. Slide the filter into the hole and place it. (Fig. 52)
FILTER
ND25
Transmission of 25% of the total
amount of light coming from the HBO
bulb
ND50
Transmission of 50% of the total
amount of light coming from the HBO
bulb
12.3.4 Using the filter slider
Moving the slider toward left or right to insert the
desired position. A click sound will confirm the
proper positioning of the slider. (Fig. 52)
1. When the position ① is inserted (provided that
a ND filter is installed) the light coming from the
lamp housing will be decreased, according to the
filter type installed.
2. When the position ② is inserted, no filters are
engaged into the light path.
3. When the position ③ is inserted, the shutter is
engaged in the light path and therefore no light
will come.
Close the shutter by interrupting the observation
for a limited time and not subjecting the sample
to unnecessary lighting in the period in which it
is not observed. (Switching off and on frequently
the HBO lamp considerably reduces its duration).
