1. Keep the instrument clean and dry at all times.
2. Keep all surfaces clean. Use a damp cloth to clean the module surfaces. Dry all surfaces
thoroughly. If an acid spill occurs, neutralize the acid with baking soda and then proceed to clean
all the surfaces.
3. The rotor seal in the valve module wears with use. Routine replacement of the module is
necessary. The main cause of early failure is the presence of abrasive particles in the samples.
Filter or centrifuge the sample to prevent scratches on the rotor seal surface.
4. If leaks occur and the above suggestions do not help, contact the manufacturer for a job number
and send the unit to the factory immediately to reduce the severity of the damage.

Connect the switching valve

The switching valve is a manual valve that moves the flow in the manifold. Some manifolds that
include a column (e.g., cadmium column for nitrate reduction) can have this type of valve.
A flared tubing connection uses flared tubing 0.5 mm ID from the switching valve flare kit. Refer to
Figure
3.
Attach the connector to the valve and finger-tighten.

Identify a flow cell leak

If there is a flow cell leak, issues can occur. A leak can be caused by a poorly sealed flare. The flow
cell should be examined regularly for leaks and signs of a leak. Do the steps that follow when a leak
is found.
1. Remove the flow cell immediately to keep all liquids away from the electronics inside the detector
head. Refer to
Figure
2. Clean the ports of the flow cell with a cotton swab and deionized water and assemble again.
Note: If the leaks come from the flow cell edges, make sure that there are tightened, good seals at both ports.
3. If air bubbles stay inside the cell, clean the new flow cells. Remove and clean the fiber optic
cables.
4. When the manifold is installed, put all the reagent tubing in a 0.25 M sodium hydroxide solution.
