SySTEm (Figure A)
®
• Indicated for low to moderate impact levels only.
• Build height with Male Pyramid: 176mm (6 15/16").
• Maximum weight 147kg (325 lbs) low activity or 130kg (285 lbs)
moderate activity.
• 10 mm (3/8") heel height.
• Available in sizes 23-30.
BENCH ALIGNmENT (Figure B)
• Adjust to appropriate heel height (using the shoe).
• Introduce appropriate socket angels flexion/extension and
abduction/adduction.
• Divide the foot cover into 3 equal portions.
• The load line should fall at the junction of the posterior and the
middle third portions as shown in the diagram.
• The mark denoting the junction of the middle and posterior thirds is
located inside the foot cover opening.

DyNAmIC ALIGNmENT

The tapered heel part, compressed tarsal core and the opened dual
J-shaped pylons store energy at heel strike, then slowly releasing it to
assist tibial progression to midstance. The forward momentum
generated by this action results in the toe being loaded for optimum
energy release to toe off. The heel to toe action can be influenced by:
• A-P positioning of foot
• Dorsi-Plantarflexion
• Heel Stiffness
HEEL STIFFNESS
Heel too soft
Symptoms
• Foot will come to flat position too early (amputees will feel like
sinking into a hole)
• Extra energy is required to climb up over the toe
• Toe will feel too stiff
• Knee may hyperextend
Action
• Add stiffer heel wedge
• Shift socket anterior (or foot posterior)
Heel too hard
Symptoms
• Rapid heel to toe movement
• At heel strike the amputee has poor control of his prosthesis
• Minimal energy return feeling
• Knee may become unstable
Action
• Replace (or remove) wedge with a softer one
• Shift socket posterior (or foot anterior)
HEEL WEDGES, TARSAL CORE AND ACHILLES STRAP (Figure C)
Heel Wedges
• Wedges can be inserted to increase heel stiffness.
• To insert: Slide the wedge between the Talux Tarsal Core and the
Achilles Strap retainer until it protrudes evenly on both sides.
• To remove: Grab the exposed end of the wedge with pliers and pull to
remove.
• To attach permanently: Trim the wedge to the width of the keel.
