ELF DIAGNOSYS
At power up, the ECU performs a self-diagnostic test. The sensors are tested each time they are
activated. If even a single sensor fails, the entire system must be disabled.
Failures are recorded by type and frequency of occurrence; this information can be read with the
diagnostic tool through CAN network and it's displayed on the dashboard display.
Each sensor has its own failure code:
• VBAT short-circuit
• Open circuit / short-circuit on GND side
• Internal error
Sensor Power supply:
• Short-circuit on GND side
Micro-controller:
• Internal error (ROM / RAM / EEPROM).

OMPONENT DESCRIPTION

Ultrasonic sensors

The sensor is an ultrasonic device acting as an intelligent transmitter and receiver of ultrasound pulse
packs. Pulse frequency is originated by the sensor.
The technology is based on the use of piezoelectric transducers which are used in transmission and
reception. The transducer, appropriate voltage driven, generates an ultrasonic wave that is reflected
on the obstacle and returns to the transducer, which converts it back into a voltage. The latter is sent
on to the ECU via the same line used for the transmission request.
