Use Caution When Operating the
Handpiece
When the power pedal is depressed to operate the
handpiece, do not allow the Extended Length Tip
to come into contact with any object except for
the target tissue at the operating site.
Warning
Touching the tip of the handpiece by the
operator, while powered, can result in personal
injury. Contact of the vibrating tip with a hard
surface, e.g. a metal instrument tray, may damage
the tip of the handpiece and may necessitate
replacement before use.
Required Handpiece
A range of handpieces are available for use with
the console. The Extended Length Tip is only
designed for use with the 35 kHz Neurosurgical
Handpiece (part #1523000M9).
About the Disposable Shroud
A disposable shroud is included with the Extended
Length Tip kit. Use this disposable shroud with
the Extended Length Tip instead of the reusable
shroud that is supplied with the handpiece. The
reusable shroud should be kept for procedures
that do not use the Extended Length Tip. At the
end of the Extended Length Tip procedure, discard
the disposable shroud.
Notice
Do not discard the reusable shroud that is
supplied with the handpiece.
Wrench Set
Use the CUSA Selector® Wrench Set (part
# 1523072M3) for the 35 kHz Neurosurgical
Handpiece. This wrench set is for assembling and
disassembling the handpiece for cleaning and
sterilization.
Use only the CUSA Selector® Wrench Set to
tighten and loosen tips and extensions on the
handpiece. Always secure the handle in the holder
provided. Never assemble or disassemble the
handpiece by holding the handpiece in your hand
as damage may occur to the handpiece.
Tubing Kit
It is necessary to order a supply of sterile tubing
kits for use with your CUSA NXT™ and CUSA
Selector® systems (part #1517079, box of 10).
Assembling of the Tip to the Handpiece
The CUSA Selector® handpiece should be
assembled in the sterile field.
1. Lay the handpiece in a wrench holder as shown
below with the wrench flat in the holder cut out.
Screw the Extended Length Tip into the handle by
hand, then secure with the wrench in a clockwise
direction until tight.
Caution
With correct use of the wrench, it is not possible
to over-tighten the joint. However, if the joint
is not firmly tightened, the handpiece will not
function correctly and may be noisy and overheat
during use.
Warning
Use of a wrench, other than the one supplied by
Integra, could damage the handpiece.
