4.3 Removing the snap ring from a
piezo CRI
WARNING – Risk of injury from
falling parts!

Wear safety shoes.
¶
Fasten the dismantling tool in a
vise using sufficient clamping force.
1. In the document "Important information"
(1 689 989 345), check whether the CRI may
be used in the dismantling tool.

CRIs that are not listed in the document "Im-
portant information" (1 689 989 345) can be
damaged when removing the snap ring with
the aid of the dismantling tool.

The snap ring must be broken apart where
the wall thickness of the CRI is the greatest,
as otherwise the CRI can be damaged.

On a piezo CRI, the greatest wall thickness is
located on the side where the chamfer on the
high-pressure connection is the longest.

On most piezo CRIs the longest side of the
chamfer, and thus the greatest wall thickness,
is on the side with the return (Fig. 7, item 3).

2. Determine the spot on the piezo CRI with the
greatest wall thickness by visually inspecting
the chamfer at the high-pressure connection.

Depending on the CRI, a sleeve or ring may
conceal the snap ring.
3. Slide sleeve or ring up so that the snap ring
is visible.
4. Rotate the opening in the snap ring (Fig. 8,
item 4) to the side opposite the greatest wall
thickness.
5. Push the CRI – with the greatest wall thick-
ness facing the replaceable cutting tool – as
far as possible into the dismantling tool and
hold it in this position.
 The snap ring (Fig. 8, item 3) is positioned
exactly at the height of the replaceable
cutting insert (Fig. 8, item 2).
