Field of application

Ultra high-output and ergonomic headlamp designed for rapid
movement. Weather resistant, IP66 protection.
Switching on & off, brightness
selection...
The ULTRA provides 3 power levels: It allows you to choose the power
level suitable for your activity, and to optimize lighting distance and
burn time.
- ECONOMIC: long burn time.
- OPTIMUM: ideal balance between power and burn time.
- MAXIMUM: maximum power.
The ULTRA is regulated. The electronic current-regulating system
maintains constant brightness. It has a reserve power mode that
activates automatically when the rechargeable batteries are nearly
spent, giving low-level proximity lighting and greatly extending burn
time.
To avoid battery discharge during transport, take care to secure your
lamp by turning the selector knob to the locked position. Before use,
unlock the lamp by turning the selector knob to the OFF position (see
drawing).
Thermal regulation
The ULTRA is equipped with a thermal regulation system to prevent
the lamp from overheating. A thermostat analyzes the temperature and
regulates the power to preserve the lamp. Thus in certain conditions
you will observe a significant reduction in brightness.
Never cover the ventilation holes behind the optics. They allow
dissipation of the heat generated by the lamp.

Electromagnetic compatibility

Conforms to the requirements of the 89/336/CEE directive on
electromagnetic compatibility.
Warning, an avalanche beacon in receive (find) mode can experience
interference when in proximity to your lamp when it is lit. In case of
interference (indicated by static noise from the beacon), move the
beacon away from the lamp until the noise stops, or switch off the
lamp.
Energy
Petzl ULTRA rechargeable batteries (Lithium)
- ACCU 4 ULTRA (E55400): 4000 mAh
- ACCU 2 ULTRA (E55450): 2000 mAh
These batteries must be charged prior to first use - use only the Petzl
ULTRA QUICK CHARGER E55800.
Verify your battery's charge level by pushing the Energy Gauge button.
The Bar Graph system will light for 3 seconds:
- Battery charged 75 to 100 % = 4 bars lit.
- Battery charged to 50 to 75 % = 3 bars lit.
- Battery charged 25 to 50 % = 2 bars lit.
- Battery charged 5 to 25 % = 1 bar lit.
When the battery is nearly discharged, the light becomes dim. It
switches to RESERVE mode (indicated by blinking before the light
dims).
- In Maximum setting => 3 successive drops in power (Optimum,
Economy, Reserve).
In Optimal setting => 2 successive drops in power.
In Economy setting => 1 drop in power.
Do not hesitate to recharge a battery that is partially discharged or that
has been in storage for more than two weeks. Attention, use a battery
regularly to prolong its life. Non-use of the battery for a year can cause
it to deteriorate.
The Li-Ion battery loses 10 % of its capacity per year. It can be
recharged 300 times. (After 300 times, it still has 70 % of its original
capacity).
Always use the Petzl ULTRA battery at a temperature between -40 °C
to +60 °C.
Protection against the cold
Battery life diminishes markedly below 10 °C. The battery can be
carried under your clothes to keep it warm.
Battery storage
To extend the life of your battery, store it in a clean, dry place at
temperatures between -20° C and +35° C.
Before storing for a long period, charge it to 50 %.
Precautions
WARNING, incorrect use can damage the battery. Risk of explosion
and burns.
- The lamp is not recommended for young children.
- Do not dismantle or modify it.
- Do not submerge it in water.
- Do not reverse the polarity of the plug on the charger or the lamp
when connecting a plug (they are designed to help prevent this).
- The rechargeable batteries are individually tested. Contact Petzl if you
have any doubt about the condition of the battery.
When to retire your equipment
Immediately discontinue use of any battery having a cracked or
broken casing. Retire it.
- Do not put used rechargeable batteries in a fire. Do not place it in a
fire or attempt to destroy it; an explosion or a release of toxic materials
may result.
- Do not drive a nail into the battery, do not strike it with a hammer,
do not crush it.

ULTRA BELT + ACCU 2 ULTRA / ULTRA BELT + ACCU 4 ULTRA
Petzl ULTRA QUICK CHARGER E55800
This 100-240 V~, 50/60 Hz charger can be used worldwide with the
appropriate adaptor plug.
Time for recharge
The time for a complete recharge is 3 h for the ACCU 2 ULTRA, and 5 h
for the ACCU 4 ULTRA.
You may leave the battery connected to the wall charger. So it is
always ready for use. When the battery is fully charged, the self-
regulating system stops charging it.
Charging indicator
A red light is lit when the battery is charging.
When charging is complete, the light turns green and the battery is
kept at full charge.
Precautions
- Batteries must always be charged at a temperature between 10 °C
and 40 °C.
- Do not leave the battery in a charger that is not connected to a power
source. Doing so will rapidly discharge the battery.
- Do not recharge non-rechargeable batteries, risk of explosion.
- Recharge only ULTRA batteries with this charger. Recharging other
types of batteries may cause personal injury and may damage the
battery and charger.
- Do not use with an extension cord.
- Do not leave a battery in the charger if the battery emits any odor or
heat, changes color or shape, is leaking electrolyte, or shows any type
of irregularity.
- Do not expose the charger to rain or snow; electrocution may result.
- Do not operate the charger if it has been subjected to a significant
impact or fall.
- If the charger is damaged (the power cable for example), do not
disassemble. It must only be repaired in Petzl workshops as special
tools are required.
- To reduce the risk of damage to the plug, pull on the plug and not the
cable when you are disconnecting the charger.
- To avoid the risk of an electric shock, unplug the chargers before
attempting any maintenance or cleaning.

General information

Do not attempt to dismantle the lamp. LEDs have a lifetime of many
tens of thousands of hours. Dismantling the lamp voids the guarantee.
In case of malfunction
Check the contacts for corrosion (batteries, cable connectors). If
corroded, gently scrape the contacts clean without deforming them.
Verify that the cable connectors are properly connected.
If your lamp still does not work, contact PETZL.
Maintenance, cleaning
Use optical wipes or hand-wash the lamp in lukewarm soapy water.
Do not wipe with an abrasive product. Take care to avoid scratching
the lens. Do not wash with a high pressure hose. Remove the elastics
from the lamp before washing them.
Storage, transport
Dry the lamp and headband after each use. During storage and
transport of your product, keep it away from exposure to UV, moisture,
chemical products, etc.
Modification, repair
Any modification, addition to, or repair of the equipment other than
that authorized by Petzl is prohibited due to the risk of reducing the
effectiveness of the equipment.
Protecting the environment
Lamps, bulbs, and batteries should be recycled. Do not throw them
in the regular trash. Dispose of these items by recycling them in
accordance with applicable local regulations. By doing so you play a
part in protecting the environment and public health.
The PETZL guarantee
This lamp is guaranteed for 3 years against any defects in materials
or manufacture. Exclusions from the guarantee: normal wear and tear,
oxidation, modifications or alterations, incorrect storage, damage
caused by accidents, by negligence, by leaking batteries or by use for
which this product is not intended.
Responsibility
PETZL is not responsible for the consequences, direct, indirect or
accidental, or any other type of damage befalling or resulting from the
use of this product.
