Commissioning

In order to remove the coal dust produced by abrasion during transport and filling with
activated carbon the filter must be rinsed.
The activated carbon filled into it becomes moistened in water only slowly and tends to
float. Therefore the activated carbon must be watered.
Set central control valve (3) to backwashing. For that purpose press the switch lever
(10) to the right, switch it downwards and in position 1st backwashing let it engage
again to the left.
Slowly open the shut-off valve in the supply line until water escapes from the rinsing line
(9). After that close the shut-off valve again. In this position the filter should now
remain standing for 1 hour.
After this watering time place the central control valve to 1st backwashing. Backwash
until the water escaping is completely clear.
Set the central control valve to the 2nd first filtrate rinsing. Rinse until the water is
completely clear here too.
Set the central control valve to Operation. The filter is ready for operation.

Operation

Depending on the area of use, the water should be checked for taste, odour and by
means of a colloid index measuring unit.
Backwashing
At regular intervals, but at least once a week, backwashing must be carried out.
Set central control valve (3) to 1st backwashing.
A backwashing process takes 5 to 10 minutes and must be carried out until the water
flowing out is clear.
If organic substances are to be removed from the water, the unit is backwashed only
after refilling, but then no more.
First filtrate rinsing
Set central control valve (3) to 2nd first filtrate rinsing.
The first filtrate rinsing process takes about 3 to 5 minutes (until clear water flows out
into the sewers).
Operation
Set central control valve (3) to operation. The filter is ready for operation again.
Changing of the activated carbon filling
The activated carbon filling must be changed as soon as the substances to be removed
from the water are detected in the filtered water to an unacceptable extent and/or the
required colloid index has been exceeded and success is not achieved in reaching
improvement by means of backwashing.
Caution: Replacing or refilling the filter material may only be carried out by the
BWT works customer service or by specially instructed personnel.

Maintenance

Every technical unit requires regular maintenance. In accordance with DIN 1988 this
must be carried out as a matter of principle by specialist personnel who also carry out
replacement of the wear parts.
Maintenance must take place once a year, in the case of communal units twice a year.
Performance: by manufacturer or plumber.
