Fire hazard: When using the external power supply, take care not to overload the
power outlet. There is a risk of overload and fire.
Make sure that the power supply including cable is not damaged. Check the suitability
of the voltage source used for the device. Use only the power supply recommended by
MACHEREY-NAGEL.
Risk of injury: Familiarize yourself with the device before working with it and read this
document carefully. Do not use the device unless you have received instruction in its use.
Defects of the power supply and housing can lead to malfunction of the device. If the
instrument shows an apparent breakage of the housing or a damaged power supply, it must
be taken out of operation.

8.3 Battery operation

Risk of burns: The batteries may leak. Remove the batteries from the device if the

is not used for a longer period of time.
Damage due to leaking batteries: MACHEREY-NAGEL recommends the use of high quality
batteries.
The Photometer PF-12
(included in the scope of delivery) are inserted into the instrument. Rechargeable batteries,
e.g. 4 × NiMH AA 2500 mAh, are also available as optional accessories. The charger and
rechargeable batteries must be ordered separately. The charge level of the batteries is shown in
the upper part of the display in the form of a battery symbol after switching on. When connected
with a USB cable, the info "U" also appears next to the battery symbol.
When changing the batteries, always replace the complete set. The battery compartment is
located on the bottom of the instrument. The cuvette slot must be empty. The instrument is
placed upside down on a soft surface and the batteries are inserted as follows
The battery compartment cover may only be removed when inserting and replacing the
batteries!
1. Loosen the screws of the battery compartment and remove the cover.
2. Insert 4 AA batteries (see scope of delivery) into the holder of the instrument. Make sure that
the polarities on the batteries match the marking in the battery compartment.
3. Replace the battery compartment cover, tighten the screws again and turn around the de-
vice again.
