17 Adjusting the Carburetor
► Warm up the engine by opening and closing the throttle for
about 1 minute.
H
► Turn the high speed screw (H) slightly clockwise (leaner)
until the engine delivers optimum power again. Do not turn
further than stop.
NOTICE
If the setting is too lean there is a risk of engine damage due
to insufficient lubrication and overheating. After returning
from high altitude, reset the carburetor to the standard
setting.
17.4 Adjusting the Carburetor for Operation at
Temperatures Below 14 °F (- 10 °C)
If you use the chain saw at temperatures below 14 °F
(- 10 °C), the engine may not accelerate properly. A slight
adjustment of the carburetor setting may be necessary.
► Start the engine, @ 14.4.
► Disengage the chain brake, @ 15.1.
► Warm up the engine by opening and closing the throttle for
about 1 minute.
0458-573-8621-D
► Turn the low speed screw (L) a 1/4 of a turn
counter-clockwise.
► It is usually necessary to change the setting of the idle
speed screw (LA) after every correction to the low speed
screw (L). If the saw chain runs continuously or the engine
stops, adjust the idle speed, @ 23.2.
NOTICE
Engine power may drop noticeably if the saw is
subsequently used at temperatures above 14 °F (- 10 °C)
again. Reset the carburetor to the standard setting.

17.5 Standard Carburetor Setting

The carburetor comes from the factory with a standard
setting. This setting provides an optimum fuel-air mixture
under most operating conditions.
