etc. until all DMX-controlled units have been
connected in a chain.
3) To prevent interference in signal transmission, in
case of long cables or a multitude of units con-
nected in series, terminate the control output of
the last DMX unit in the chain with a 120 Ω resis-
tor (> 0.3 W): Connect a corresponding termi-
nating plug (e. g. DLT-123 from "img Stage
Line") to the output jack.
4.1.2 Audio input
To use an audio signal instead of the internal micro-
phone for control in sync with the music, connect
an audio source (e. g. Aux output of a mixer) to the
RCA input AUDIO (28) of the DMX-3216. When the
jack is connected, the internal microphone will be
switched off.
4.1.3 MIDI connections
For controlling the controller by means of MIDI sig-
nals, the 5-pole jacks MIDI IN, MIDI OUT and MIDI
THRU are available.
Connect a unit for controlling the controller by
means of MIDI (e. g. MIDI sequencer, keyboard) to
the jack MIDI IN (31). The signal will then be avail-
able at the jack MIDI THRU (30) for additional MIDI-
controlled units.
At the jack MIDI OUT, the control signals that the
controller transmits while it is being operated are
available (e. g. to control another DMX-3216).
4.1.4 USB connection
For saving and loading data, connect a USB stor-
age device to the USB port (27).
4.1.5 Power supply
Connect the low-voltage plug of the power supply
unit provided to the jack DC INPUT (32) and then
connect the power supply unit to a mains socket
(230 V~ / 50 Hz).
4.2 Basic settings
4.2.1 Setting DMX channels
For separate control of all DMX units connected to
the light controller, each unit must have its own
start address. The 512 DMX channels of the DMX-
3216 are divided into equally sized address sec-
tions for 16 units, each with up to 32 DMX chan-
nels. Consequently, the following start addresses
will have to be set at the individual units:

4.2.2 Assigning movement channels
To make sure that units with controllable move-
ments (e. g. moving head, scanner) allow these
movements to be controlled by the jog wheels (19,
22) and to make sure that the movement patterns
(MOVEMENT) of the controller work correctly,
assign the jog wheels to the appropriate PAN and
TILT channels of the respective unit. In addition, the
two movement directions can be reversed, if nec-
essary.
1) Use the POWER switch (33) to switch on the
controller.
2) Keep the button PROGRAM / REC (10) pressed
for 3 s. The LED next to the button will start to
flash to indicate that the programming mode has
been activated.
3) Press the buttons FINE (18) and MODE (20) at
the same time. The LED ASSIGN (9) will light up
and

will appear on the display (11).
4) Use the number buttons (17) to select the num-
ber of the unit for which the assignment is to be
made. It is possible to select multiple units at the
same time if they are to be set identically. When
a unit has been selected, the LED above the
appropriate number button will light up. To dese-
lect a unit, press its number button again.
The display will indicate the current assign-
ment for the unit selected, e. g.
PAN = channel 2 and TILT = channel 4. If no
assignment has been made of if the assignment
has been deleted,
