Safety Notes
The units (controller and power supply unit) corre-
spond to all relevant directives of the EU and are
therefore marked with
WARNING The power supply unit uses danger-
ous mains voltage. Leave servicing
to skilled personnel. Inexpert han-
dling or modification may result in
electric shock.
Please observe the following items in any case:
G
The units are suitable for indoor use only. Protect
them against dripping water and splash water,
high air humidity and heat (admissible ambient
temperature range: 0 – 40 °C).
G
Do not operate the controller and immediately
disconnect the power supply unit from the socket
1. if the units are visibly damaged,
2. if a defect might have occurred after the units
were dropped or suffered a similar accident,
3. if malfunctions occur.
In any case the units must be repaired by skilled
personnel.
G
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth; never use
water or chemicals.
G
No guarantee claims for the units and no liability
for any resulting personal damage or material
damage will be accepted if the units are used for
other purposes than originally intended, if they
are not correctly connected or operated, or if
they are not repaired in an expert way. Likewise,
no liability will be accepted for any data loss
resulting from a defect or from operating errors
and for any consequential damage that is due to
this data loss.
If the units are to be put out of operation
definitively, take them to a local recycling
plant for a disposal which is not harmful to
the environment.

Applications
The light controller DMX-3216 is specially designed
for illumination installations on stages or in dis-
cotheques. 16 light effect units with a DMX 512
input, e. g. dimmers, scanners, moving heads etc.,
can be controlled by means of the controller, with
up to 32 channels each. The channels for move-
ment control can be operated by means of the two
jog wheels and can, if required, be reversed. 16
scalable movement patterns may be called up. In
addition, it is possible to save 32 scenes that can
even be called up in a mixed way. Furthermore, 16
sequence programs with up to 750 steps can be
created. These sequence programs can be re -
played automatically, music-controlled (by means
of an audio signal or by means of the integrated
microphone) or manually. It is also possible to
replay multiple programs at the same time.
Using the USB interface, the programs created
can be externally saved or exchanged between
multiple devices. The MIDI interface provides an
option for remote-control of the controller, e. g. by
means of a MIDI sequencer or by means of another
DMX-3216.

Setting the Unit into Operation
The controller can either be installed in a rack
(482 mm / 19") or used as a table-top unit. Rack
installation requires 3 RS (RS = rack space =
44.45 mm).
Prior to connecting or changing existing connec-
tions, switch off the DMX-3216 and the units to be
connected.
4.1 Connections
4.1.1 DMX output
As a DMX output, a 3-pole XLR jack with the fol-
lowing pin configuration is provided:
Pin 1 = ground, pin 2 = DMX-, pin 3 = DMX+
For connection, use special cables for DMX signal
transmission (e. g. cables of the CDMXN series
from "img Stage Line"). For cable lengths exceed-
ing 150 m, it is generally recommended to insert a
DMX level matching amplifier (e. g. SR-103DMX
from "img Stage Line").
1) Connect the output DMX OUT (26) to the DMX
control input of the first unit to be controlled.
2) Connect the DMX output of the first unit to be
controlled to the control input of the next DMX-
controlled unit. Connect the output of this DMX-
controlled unit to the input of the following unit
