3-1 Operating Procedure
After the Brooks SFP has been mechanically installed, the following
procedure is recommended for starting the unit.
A. Supply power to the sensor with the sensor exposed to atmospheric
pressure.
B. Wait 5-10 minutes before checking output electrical signal. Check
output current or voltage with reference to the following base conditions.
Gauge pressure
The indicated current or voltage should be close to:
4 mA for a current output
0 or 1 volt for a voltage output depending on configuration
Absolute pressure
The desired current or voltage will have to be calculated based on the
range of device and the local ambient pressure.
Example Calculation:
A pressure transmitter has been purchased as a 4-20 mA device and the
measured pressure range is 0-100 psia. The current output at local
atmospheric conditions can be calculated as follows.
(Local pressure/full scale pressure range)*16 +4 = mA output at
atmospheric pressure. Reference an accurate barometer for local
pressure readings.
(14.7 psia/100 psia) x 16 + 4 = 6.352 mA
Compare the theoretical to the calculated current to determine if the
devices zero is out of adjustment.
For 1-5 voltage output the equation is as follows:
(14.7 psia/100 psia) x 4 + 1 = 1.583 volts
For 0-5 volts the equation is as follows:
(14.7 psia/100 psia) x 5 = 0.735 volts
For 0-10 volts the equation is as follows:
(14.7 psia/100 psia) x 10 = 1.47 volts
