A Vapor Leak Indicator is included in the wall of the electronics housing. Its
purpose is to provide an indication that corrosive vapors have
contaminated the electrical compartment. The normal color of the indicator
is yellow. The chemical contained in the indicator is very sensitive to
corrosive ions and will change color to black in the presence of these ion
vapors.
Corrosive vapors can damage the sensor electronics, which can result in
measurement errors or a complete failure of the unit. The transmitter
should be replaced as soon as possible once the indicator turns from
YELLOW to BLACK as shown below.
