Maintaining and Sharpening
the Saw Chain
Cutting effortlessly with a correctly
sharpened chain
A properly sharpened chain slices
through wood effortlessly and requires
very little feed pressure.
Working with a dull or damaged chain
requires more physical effort, exposes
the user to higher vibration levels,
produces unsatisfactory cutting results
and increases wear.
Clean the chain.
N
Check the chain for cracks in the
N
links and damaged rivets.
Replace any damaged or worn
N
parts of the chain and match the
new parts to the shape and size of
the original parts.
WARNING
It is absolutely essential to comply with
the angles and dimensions specified
below. If the saw chain is incorrectly
sharpened – and in particular if the depth
gauges are set too low – there is an
increased risk of kickback, with resulting
risk of injury.
The saw chain cannot be locked in place
on the guide bar. To resharpen the
chain, either increase its tension or
remove the chain and resharpen it on a
bench sharpening tool (FG 2, HOS,
USG) .
