Determining the Staple Length
Consider two factors when determining the correct staple length:
- the thickness of the material being stapled
- the composition (hardness) of the material being stapled.
Staples 4–6 mm in length will typically suffice when stapling into hard
materials such as hardwood.
Staples 8–10 mm in length will typically suffice when stapling into soft
materials such as softwood. This should suffice to fasten any materials.
The crown of the staple should be flush with the top of the material
being fastened as shown.
If the crown of the staple is not flush with the top of the material being
fastened, the staple is too long. In this case, use the next smaller size
staple for optimal results.
