3.2 Causes and operator prevention of
kickback
Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the
chain bar touches an object, or when the wood
closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.
Tip contact may in some cases cause a sudden
reverse reaction, kicking the chain bar up and
back towards the operator.
Pinching the saw chain along the top of the chain
bar may push the chain bar rapidly back towards
the operator.
Either of these reactions may cause you to lose
control of the saw which could result in serious
personal injury. Do not rely exclusively on the
safety devices built into your saw. As a chain saw
user, you should take several steps to keep your
cutting work free from accident or injury.
Kickback is the result of chain saw misuse and/or
incorrect operating procedures or conditions. and
can be avoided by taking proper precautions as
given below:
■
Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fin-
gers encircling the chain saw handles,
with both hands on the saw. and position
your body and arm to allow you to resist
kickback forces. Kickback forces can be
controlled by the operator if proper precau-
tions are taken. Do not let go of the chain
saw.
■
Do not overreach and do not cut above
shoulder height. This helps prevent unin-
tended tip contact and enables better control
of the chain saw in unexpected situations.
■
Only use replacement bars and chains
specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect re-
placement bars and chains may cause chain
breakage and/or kickback.
■
Follow the manufacturer's sharpening and
maintenance instructions for the saw
chain. Decreasing the depth gauge height
can lead to increased kickback.
3.3 Safety instructions for pole-mounted
pruner attachment (01)
■
During pruning, lift the pole-mounted pruner
(01/1) to a maximum angle of 60° (01/2). At a
steeper angle, you inevitably get into an area
into which sawn branches can fall. Always
stand outside this area.
■
Plan an escape route to avoid falling branch-
es in advance. This route must be free of ob-
stacles, e.g. sawn off branches or slippery ar-
eas that could hinder your escape.

Maintain a safe distance to other persons,
animals, objects or buildings of at least 2.5
times the length of the branch to be sawn off.
If that is not possible, saw off the branch in
pieces.
■
Do not try to saw off a branch with a diameter
larger than the length of the chain bar.
■
Prevent moving branches or objects becom-
ing caught up in the saw blade. In this case,
immediately switch off the pole-mounted
pruner.
■
Switch off the basic appliance and push the
protective cover over the saw chain for:
■
Inspection, adjusting and cleaning work
■
Work on the chain bar and saw chain
■
Leaving the appliance
■
Transport
■
Storage
■
Maintenance and repair work
■
Danger
■
Maintain a minimum distance of 10 m from
overhead power cables.
4 INSTALLATION AND START-UP
4.1 Installing chain bar and saw chain (03 –
06)
CAUTION! Risk of injury from the saw
chain. The cutting edges of the saw chain are
very sharp so that there is a risk of cutting injuries
when handling the saw chain. Before starting any
work on the saw chain:
■
Switch off the appliance.
■
Wear protective footwear.
1. Loosen (03/a) the fastening nut (03/1) of the
chain sprocket cover (03/2). Remove the fas-
tening nut and chain sprocket cover.
2. Use the screwdriver on the combination
spanner to loosen the chain tensioning screw
(04/1). Turn the chain tensioning screw until
chain tensioning pin (04/2) is at the rear end
of the thread (04/a).
3. Fitting the saw chain:
■
Align (05/a) the cutting teeth (05/1) of the
saw chain (05/2) that are to lie on the top
of the chain bar with the tip of the chain
bar (05/3).
Note: Ensure that the chain is fitted cor-
rectly!
