MTS 100

1.- GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1.- Description

The MTS 100 field meter has been designed to take the required measurements in cable installations
and individual or master-antenna terrestrial and satellite systems. It covers the satellite 1st IF, terrestrial tele-
vision, hyperband and FM band, as well as the cable television "S" channels. Therefore, all necessary
measurements can be taken in each of the three parts of the system: the antenna, the amplifier system and
the distribution system.
- This equipment has been designed for multistandard operation:
• Terrestrial: Standard B, G, H, D, K, I, L. CCIR channels
• Satellite: Any system
- The MTS 100 is equipped with a 30 dB RF attenuator in the satellite band, and 20, 40, and 60 dB RF
attenuator in terrestrial TV, which enables the user to measure signals up to 100 dBµV in satellite and up to
130 dBµV (3 volts) in terrestrial TV with no need for additional external attenuators.
- It can supply the voltage necessary to power the external units (antenna previous amplifier and
LNB´s) at 13 or 18 V, as well as with or without 22 KHz switching signal superimposed on the voltage, for
changing the polarization, the band or the signal switches.
- The tuning is synthesized and the frequency resolution is 500 KHz in the satellite band and 62.5 KHz
in the TV band.
- The sound subcarrier can be manually tuned in the 4.00 to 9.00 MHz band, with a resolution of 10
KHz.
- A microcontroller automates a large part of the operations required for optimizing the measurement
process; for example, continuous frequency synthesis, the correction of linearity and flatness errors with no
need for correction charts, control of the different operating modes, etc.
- For greater convenience of use, the MTS 100 is equipped with 64 memories, in which the different
configurations of the instrument can be stored.
- The measurement bandwidth in terrestrial TV is 200 KHz. This allows the user to measure the chro-
ma carrier level in a TV channel and to obtain the necessary separation between the FM channels.
- The values measured are shown on a digital display with a resolution of 1 dB and calibration is in
dBµV, which facilitates the calculations of gain and loss in each of the elements of the system.
- The MTS 100 incorporates two systems designed to facilitate the search for the signal max. with no
need for continuous observation of the instrument. The first system is an audible indicator of the signal level,
emitting a tone whose frequency varies according to the power received. The second system provides an on-
screen indication of the signal level in the form of an analogue bar whose length varies according to the power
received.
The reception of a television channel can be observed on the monitor. In addition, the user can obser-
ve the line synchronism pulse along with the burst, which indicates the quality of the signal in terms of amplifier
saturation and chroma level.
- A built-in speaker allows the user to monitor the carrier demodulation in FM and the TV sound.
- The spectrum analyzer function provides the user with a panoramic view of the frequencies or chan-
nels present in the band selected. The zero span option helps in the selection of a frequency which is located
very close to another.
- The instrument is powered by a 12 V, 6.0 Ah internal battery, which allows the MTS 100 to operate
autonomously for approximately two hours at 30% ON/OFF.
- The instrument contains a battery-protection circuit. If the battery is almost completely discharged,
