4.4. Out-of-balance Detection and Balancing for Washer-extractors
This document describes how the out-of-balance (OoB) detection feature works within the
MilTouch

and MilTouch-EX
wash cycle.

The sequence begins when the cylinder is at drain speed and the next operation is an extract. The
inverter determines the amount of imbalance within the cylinder at drain speed.
Throughout any extract step, the control software monitors the vibration switch and recycles the
extract sequence if the excursion switch trips.
1. The OoB detection system compares the amount of imbalance to a table of threshold values.
2. If the imbalance is greater than the lowest threshold value, the OoB detection system limits
the speed for the extract step to a speed corresponding to the amount of imbalance.
3. If the imbalance is less than the lowest threshold value, the control software completes the
extract step at the programmed speed.
4. The OoB detection process stops until the cylinder accelerates to drain speed again.
If the vibration switch trips while the control software is accelerating the cylinder to the
programmed extract speed, the following events occur:
1. The controller software recycles the extract sequence.
2. The OoB detection system recalculates the amount of imbalance.
• If the new amount of imbalance is greater than the lowest threshold value, the controller
software completes the extract step at a speed determined by the amount of imbalance.
The control software monitors the vibration switch and repeats the recycle process if the
switch trips.
• If the new amount of imbalance is less than the lowest threshold value, the controller
software completes the extract at the programmed speed.
