8. FAULT DIAGNOSIS

SYMPTOM
Tool will not place fas-
tener
'Mandrel Slip' - jaws will
not grip mandrel
Jaws will not release
mandrel
Fasteners will not feed
through nose jaws
Excessive tail jaw wear
Feeding more than one
fastener at a time
Other symptoms or failures should be reported to your local Stanley Engineered Fastening authorised distributor or repair centre.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
Low air pressure.
Lack of lubrication.
High broach load.
Check for correct size mandrel.
Tail jaws switched off.
Air in hydraulic system.
Worn or dirty tail jaws.
' Insufficient air pressure/volume.
' Tail jaw switch inoperable.
' Air leaks to tail jaws.
Mandrel broken and not reaching tail jaws. Replace mandrel
Fault in pneumatic control box.
Dirty tail jaws or jaw housing.
Faulty tail jaw switch.
Trapped air signal
Fault in pneumatic control box
Tail jaws not switched on.
Worn tail jaws.
Cursor orientation incorrect.
Incorrect cursor
Incorrect nose jaws.
Mandrel follower spring not fitted.
Mandrel follower length
Incorrect gap between fastener head
and nose jaws when loaded.
Cursor sticking.

Incorrect mandrel follower spring fitted. Fit correct mandrel follower spring
Worn or broken barrel return spring
High broach load.
Mandrel slip.
Incorrect gap between fastener head
and nose jaws when loaded
O R I G I N A L I N S T R U C T I O N
REMEDY
Increase air pressure
Lubricate tool at air inlet point
Check fastener grip and applica-tion hole
size
Switch on tail jaws
See 'Priming Procedure'
Clean or renew as necessary
Increase air pressure/volume
Replace switch
Renew 'O' rings on piston 11
Contact Stanley Engineered Fastening
personnel
Clean and lubricate
Replace 'O' rings
Check pneumatic lines
Contact Stanley Engineered Fastening
personnel
Switch on tail jaws
Renew tail jaws
Refit, ensuring correct orientation
Fit correct cursor
Fit correct nose jaws
Fit correct mandrel follower spring
Fit correct mandrel follower
Set gap to 1.5mm - 3mm (1/16" - 1/8")
See 'Loading the Tool'
Clean and oil cursor
Renew cursor
Replace barrel return spring
Check application hole size and thickness
and fastener grip capa-bility
Check as for 'Mandrel Slip' , stage 2
Set gap to 1.5mm - 3mm (1/16" - 1/8")
