15. Troubleshooting
Review the information in the table below to troubleshoot operating problems.
PROBLEM
I. Optical Section:
Bulb does not light
Bulb operates, but field of view re-
mains dark
Field of view is obscured or not evenly
illuminated
Dust and stains can be seen in the field
of view.
Image looks double
Poor image quality:

The image is not sharp
•
The contrast is not high
•
The details are not clear.

Image glares
One side of the image is out of focus.
Image appears to waver
Field of view becomes only slightly
brighter when the voltage is raised
CAUSE
Power cord/supply is unplugged
Brightness is too low

SOLUTION
Connect into the power outlet
Set brightness to a proper level
Move the selector to BF position
Move the selector to the eye position
Move the selector to the eye position
Turn the nosepiece to a click stop
Insert the filter to full depth
Open the field diaphragm until it cir-
cumscribes the field of view
Move the selector to BF position
Clean thoroughly
Open aperture diaphragm
Set the diaphragm according to Koe-
hler settings
Turn the nosepiece to a click stop
Adjust aperture diaphragm
Thoroughly clean all the optical system
Use specimens without coverglass
Slide holder is not flat. Move the spec-
imen to a flat position
Turn the nosepiece to a click stop
Place the specimen flat on the stage.
Push slide dovetail all the way until it
is stopped
Make sure that revolving nosepiece
clicks into place correctly
