b) Inspect the area on which the machine is to
be used and remove any objects that could
be thrown up by the machine.
c) WARNING - petrol is extremely inflammable:
– Fuel must only be stored in appropriate
containers.
– Refuel out of doors only and do not smoke
during filling.
– Re-filling with petrol must be performed
before the engine is started. Never open
the tank cap or top up petrol while the
engine is running or hot.
– If the petrol tank overflows, do not attempt
to start the engine. The machine must be
removed from the area contaminated with
petrol. All attempts at starting must be
avoided until the petrol fumes have dis‐
persed.
– For safety reasons, petrol tanks and tank
caps must be replaced (regularly).
d) Replace damaged exhaust silencers.
e) Before using the machine, always visually
inspect the tools for wear or damage. To
avoid imbalance, worn or damaged parts and
retaining pins must be replaced in pairs.
23.4
Handling
a) Do not run the engine in an enclosed space
where dangerous carbon monoxide may
accumulate.
b) Only work during the day or when there is
enough light.
c) Always ensure good stability on slopes.
d) Only work at walking speed.
e) For machines on wheels: only work at right-
angles to and never up or down the slope.
f)
Be particularly careful when changing direc‐
tion on a slope.
g) Do not mow on excessively steep slopes.
h) Be particularly careful when turning the
machine around or pulling it towards you.
Do not alter the basic setting of the engine or
i)
run it at excessive engine speeds.
j)
Start the engine carefully in accordance with
the manufacturer's instructions and keep
your feet a safe distance from the tool(s).
k) Never put hands or feet on or underneath
rotating parts.
l)
Never lift or carry a machine with the engine
running.
m) The engine must be stopped:
0478-404-9905-C
– if you leave the machine;
– before you refuel.
n) The throttle valve must be closed when the
engine is running on. If the machine has a
petrol shut-off valve, it must be closed after
working.
23.5
Maintenance and Storage
a) Always make sure that all nuts, pins and
bolts are securely tightened so the machine
is in a safe operating condition.
b) Never store the machine with petrol in the
tank inside a building in which the petrol
fumes could come into contact with naked
flames or sparks or could be ignited.
c) Allow the engine to cool down before storing
the machine in an enclosed space.
d) In order to prevent fire hazards, keep the
engine and exhaust free from plant trim‐
mings or leaking lubricant.
e) In the interests of safety, replace all worn or
damaged parts.
f)
If it is necessary to drain the tank, this must
be done out of doors.
