Belt tension is adjusted by loosening the four engine
mounting screws and shifting the engine position. BE
SURE to keep pulleys aligned.
The belt should be taut when the clutch lever is engaged
(pushed forward) and loose enough to slip when the
clutch lever is disengaged (pulled back).
6.3
Remove shields from left side of unit (if unit is equipped
with cut-off, the drive chain will have to be removed).
Remove belt from gearcase pulley and push clutch lever
forward to release belt brake. Remove old belt and install
a new one.
6.4
CHAIN REPLACEMENT
1. Raise unit and place on adequate supports.
2. Remove cover from gearcase and rotate drive
wheels until master link is on top of upper gear.
NOTE: To prevent small objects and dirt from falling into
the gearcase, place a clean rag or a piece of card-
board over the gearcase opening.
3. Remove snap ring from groove on shaft and slide
gear toward the outside of the unit. See Figure 38.

4. Remove master link and rotate drive wheels until
chain is off of drive wheel sprocket. Remove chain
from unit.

5. Install new chain on drive wheel sprocket and rotate
drive wheel until chain can be connected with master
link.
6. Slide gear back into position and secure with snap
ring.
7. Replace gear case cover.

DOG WHEEL CHAIN REPLACEMENT
1. Remove the four (4) screws securing the dog wheel
assembly to cut-off case.
2. Disconnect metering wheel lever from assembly and
remove.
3. Remove the screw and washers securing the dog
wheel.
4. Move dog wheel towards small sprocket to loosen
chain for service.
5. Install new chain. Reassemble dog wheel assembly
and mount dog wheel assembly back onto the cut-off
case.

CUT-OFF DRIVE CHAIN
1. Remove shield from left rear of unit.
2. Remove master link from chain and remove chain
See Figure 39.

3. Check both sprockets for excessive wear and
replace if necessary. To replace sprockets, remove
the four (4) screws and lockwashers from the face of
the sprocket.
4. Install new chain and replace shield.
