Safety information

DANGERS!
HAVING GOOD LOGIC WHEN MOVING A LOAD IS THE
KEY TO SAFE USE OF THE WINCH.
NEVER OPERATE WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING AND
SUPERVISION.
ACCIDENT IS HUMAN ERROR. MAKE SURE EVERY
PERSON HAS RECEIVED THE APPROPRIATE TRAINING
FOR THE JOB.
NEVER LET SOMEONE WITHOUT TRAINING USE THE

SURE THE USER KNOWS ABOUT THE SAFETY AND USAGE
PROCEDURES AND HAS READ THIS MANUAL AND THE
HONDA ENGINE USER MANUAL ( PCH1000/2000 ) . THE
OPERATOR SHOULD BE COMPETENT TO OPERATE A
LIFTING DEVICE AND BE AWARE OF ALL ASPECTS OF
SUCH OPERATIONS. HE SHOULD ALSO BE AWARE OF
LOCAL REGULATION.
FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE PRODUCT AND THE
SAFETY GUIDELINES BEFORE WORKING WITH THE
WINCH.
INFORM ALL USERS OF THE SAFETY GUIDELINES AND
USAGE PROCEDURES.
DO NOT LET CHILDREN USE THE PORTABLE CAPSTAN
PULLING/LIFTING WINCH
ANIMALS AWAY FROM THE WORK AREA.
THE EXHAUST GAS OF PCH1000/PCH2000 PORTABLE
CAPSTAN PULLING/LIFTING WINCHES
TOXIC CARBON MONOXIDE. NEVER RUN THE ENGINE
IN A CLOSED AREA WITHOUT PROPER VENTILATION.
REPLACE ANY SAFETY LABELS THAT ARE DAMAGED,
ILLEGIBLE OR MISSING.
NEVER PUT YOUR HANDS ON THE CAPSTAN DRUM, THE
ROPE GRABBING SYSTEM, THE ROPE ENTRY PULLEY OR
NEAR THE ROPE GUIDE WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.
MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CLOTHES ARE NOT GOING TO
GET CAUGHT INTO THE WINCH MOBILE PARTS.
USE ONLY 12 MM TO 13 MM ( 1/2'' ) DIAMETER DOUBLE
BRAID PORTABLE WINCH CO. POLYESTER ROPE WITH
THIS WINCH.
NEVER PULL ROLLING OBJECTS THAT MIGHT ROLL OUT
OF YOUR CONTROL.
NEVER TRY TO MOVE FIXED OR OBSTRUCTED LOADS.

Before first use
2.1
Upon receiving the winch
Inspect the box to detect any apparent damage. If there is damage
or missing parts, inform the carrier immediately.
2.2
Gasoline (petrol) powered lifting/pulling winches
(PCH1000 and PCH2000 only)
2.2.1
Engine oil
Fill the Honda engine with SAE 10W-30, API SJ oil in the quantities
indicated below depending on your model.
PCH1000 : 250 ml

PCH2000 : 580 ml
Check the oil level on a horizontal surface. The oil level should rise
to the edge of the opening. For special applications and extreme
temperature conditions, refer to the Honda engine owner's manual.
2.2.2
Oil Alert

(PCH1000 and PCH2000 only)
The GHX-50 and GX160UT2-QX2 Honda engines are equipped
TM
with an Oil Alert
system that automatically turns off the ignition
when the oil level goes below a safe level. The Oil Alert
also turns off the ignition when the winch is operating at an angle
greater than 20 degrees (± 4 degrees). Make sure that your set-up
keeps the winch at a relatively horizontal level while
winching and idling. If the oil level exceeds the maximum level,

there could be an excessive amount of contaminants
such as unburned fuel and condensed water vapor.
Drain and change the oil.
2.2.3
Gasoline (petrol)
Fill the tank with UNLEADED gasoline. Never use a mixture of oil/
gasoline, your PCH1000 or PCH2000 Portable Capstan
lifting winch is equipped with a four-stroke engine.
Consult the Honda engine manual. Do not over fill.

Engine start-up
Refer to the Honda engine user manual for start-up instructions.
FIRST USE: LET THE ENGINE RUN FIVE (5) MINUTES AT IDLE
BEFORE FIRST PULL.
Turn the engine on/off switch on.
PCH1000
Make sure to pull on the recoil starter in the axis of the rope outlet
(Figure below, Left). If you pull vertically (Figure below, Right) the
friction of the rope on the cover might damage the rope and the cover.

When the temperature is below -5ºC (23ºF), warm up the engine
before applying a load.
2.2.5
Emergency STOP switch
The PCH2000 is equipped with an emergency "STOP" switch,
which acts exactly as the on/off switch except the fact that it is
easier to reach and to use in case of unexpected situations. When
pressed, the emergency switch automatically turns off the ignition
of the engine and the switch stays blocked. To release the switch,
just turn the button in the directions of the arrows.
2.2.6
Spark arrestor
In certain areas, it is forbidden to use a gas (petrol) engine without a spark
arrestor. Check local regulations. An optional spark arrestor is available
from Portable Winch Co. and/or Honda Power Products dealers

1) Insert the spark arrestor into the exhaust tube. Make sure the
holes are aligned;
2) Fasten lightly the metal screw provided with the appropriate
screwdriver.
Refer to the Honda engine user manual for the spark arrestor
cleaning instructions.
