TRANSMISSION GEARS
LUBRICATION
The transmission gears in the cutting
head and power head assemblies need
to be lubricated periodically with gear
grease. Check the gear case grease
level approximately every 50 hours of
operation by removing the sealing bolts.
There are three sealing bolts: two on the
cutting head assembly (Fig. 12a) and one
on the power head assembly (Fig. 12b).
If no grease can be seen on the flanks
of the gear, follow the steps below to fill
with gear grease to 3/4 capacity. Do not
completely fill the transmission gear case.
1. Depending on which bolt you are
removing, lay the hedge trimmer on its
back or hold it on its side so that the
sealing bolts to be removed is facing
upwards (Fig. 12a &12b).
2. Use the included hex key to loosen and remove the sealing bolt.
3. Use a grease gun (not included) to inject some grease into the screw hole; do not
exceed 3/4 capacity.
4. Tighten the sealing bolts after injection.
The grease should meet the following requirements:
NLGI Grade Penetration: NLGI-2;
Thickener Type: Polyurea;
Recommended Operating Temperature Range: -40°F to 356°F (-40°C to 180°C);
Other than above, the grease should also be shear stable with exceptional pressure
characteristics and excellent anti-wear property, and perfect oxidation stability.
