For Your Safety

Strictly follow the Instructions for Use
Any use of the oxygen self-rescuer requires full understanding and
strict observation of these instructions.
The oxygen self-rescuer is only to be used for purposes specified
here.
Maintenance
The oxygen self-rescuer must be inspected and serviced regularly by
trained service personnel.
Repair and general overhaul of the oxygen self-rescuer may only be
carried out by trained service personnel.
We recommend that a service contract be obtained with Dräger and
that all repairs also be carried out by them.
Only authentic Dräger spare parts may be used for maintenance.
Accessories
Only use accessories mentioned in the order list.
Disposal
Used or opened units have to be disposed professionally, since the
reaction between the air humidity and the used chemical can
generate an aggressive lye.

Description

Oxy K is an oxygen self-rescuer, independent of the ambient air, with
a closed to-and-fro breathing system which uses chemically-bound
oxygen.
Oxy K 30 E/S (GB) has a nominal duration time of 30 minutes.
Oxy K 50 S (K+S) has a nominal duration time of 50 minutes.
The operating period can be significantly extended depending on the
users breathing rate.
The Oxy K 50 S (K+S) is equipped with a transponder.
The oxygen self-rescuers of the Oxy K series according to
DIN 58 639 meet the requirements of the European directive
PPE (89/686/EC).

Intended Use

Oxy K is intended for emergency escape from areas which are either
filled with smoke or toxic gases or are lacking oxygen.
Restriction:
Oxy K is only suitable for use in the temperature classes T1,
T2, T3 and T4 (refer to German guideline VDE0171 or
international standard IEC 60079. The max. surface
temperature does not exceed 135
Follow the advice given in these Instructions for Use.

Carrying Method

Slinging the oxygen self-rescuer over a shoulder to carry it along is
the standard procedure.
Other methods are possible, such as
— transport in a vehicle,
— on your chest, using an additional chest strap,
— on the chest, in case of emergency.

Before Using the Oxygen Self-Rescuer for the
First Time
Before first use, the operating company/user must ensure the
following things (see European Directive 89/656/EEC):
— the Personal Protective Equipment must fit perfectly,
— All Personal Protective Equipment units worn at the same time
(e.g. protection jacket) must be compatible with one another.
— The Personal Protective Equipment must be suitable for the
prevailing workplace conditions.
— The Personal Protective Equipment must be suitable for the
ergonomic requirements and the state of health of the person
wearing the breathing protection equipment.
Oxy K 30 S (GB) and Oxy K 50 S (K+S)
The Oxy K has to be weighed upon being delivered.
Detach the harness before weighing the oxygen self-rescuer.
The measured weight has to be compared with the original weight
specified on the metal plate.
ATTENTION!
If the measured weight is off by more than 6 grammes for the
Oxy K 30 S and off by more than 10 grammes for the
Oxy K 50 S when compared with the listed weight, the unit has
to be discarded.
Before using the oxygen self-rescuer
for the first time, the customer has to
put the inspection dates onto the
metal plate of the oxygen self-
rescuer. The metal plate is on the
rear side of the oxygen self-rescuer.
— Punch numbers may not be used
on the metal plate.
Dräger recommends engraving
or etching.
— There are six empty fields on the metal plate.
The customer is to use the first field –date of delivery– to fill in
the delivery date (month and year - e.g. 07/03) of the oxygen self-
rescuer.

Use the second field –1
Inspection– to fill in the first
inspection date. Add three years to the date of delivery
(e.g. 07/06), then fill in.

Use the third field –2
Inspection– to fill in the second
inspection date. Add five years to the date of delivery
(e.g. 07/08), then fill in.

Use the fourth field –3
Inspection– to fill in the third
inspection date. Add seven years to the date of delivery
(e.g. 07/10), then fill in.

Use the fifth field –4
Inspection– to fill in the fourth
inspection date. Add nine years to the date of delivery
(e.g. 07/12), then fill in.
Use the sixth field –End of Lifetime– to fill in the end of the
oxygen self-rescuer's service life. The end of the service life
depends on the application (see "Service Data" on page 14).
Furthermore, the manufacturer has put the following dates on the
metal plate:
— date of manufacturing
(the date the oxygen self-rescuer was manufactured on)
— serial number (serial number of the oxygen self-rescuer)
— part number (order code)
— weight
— CE Marking
— product standard (testing standard)
— designation
