3. Adjust the tool to the approximate direction of
inclination. Check that the tool is set up correctly
for entering a positive or negative inclination.
4. Set up a pole or other target at the opposite end
of the line.
5. Use the direction-finding mark as a sighting aid
and adjust the position of the tool so that the
en
direction-finding mark is in alignment with the
target.
7.6 Entering the value for the angle of
inclination 6
Example Inclination in the X-axis 2.8%, Y-axis 3.456%
Inclination range: One plane: -8000 to +8000 % Two
planes: |X| + |Y| 10.000 %
1. Switch the tool on by pressing the ON / OFF
button. Auto leveling begins.
2. Press the X-button to activate inclination value
entry mode. The second digit to the left of the
decimal point begins to blink.
3. Press the arrow buttons to select a negative (-)
inclination value.
4. Press the X button to move to the first digit to the
left of the decimal point.
5. Press the right arrow button twice to set the value
"2".
6. Press the X button to move to the first digit to the
right of the decimal point.
7. Press the left arrow button twice to set the value
"8".
8. Press the SET button save the settings for the
X-axis.
9. Press the Y-button to activate inclination value
entry mode. The second digit to the left of the
decimal point begins to blink.
10. Press the Y button to move to the first digit to the
left of the decimal point.
11. Press the right arrow button three times to set
the value "3".
12. Enter the subsequent digits in the same way.
13. Press the SET button save the settings for the
X-axis.
NOTE After entering the inclination value it takes
about two minutes until the inclination is set in
the tool and rotation begins. Do NOT touch the
tool during auto leveling as this may affect the
accuracy of the leveling procedure.

7.7 Activating the beam shields 7
The laser beam from the PR 28 can be shut off on one
ore more sides of the tool. This feature is useful when
you are using several laser tools simultaneously on
the jobsite and it is necessary to prevent reception
of the beam from more than one laser tool. The
laser plane is divided into four quadrants. These are
shown in the beam shield display and the appropriate
direction can be selected as follows:
1. Press the beam shield button.
2. Press the button again if you wish to change the
direction of the beam shield. Each press of the
button changes the direction of the beam shield.
3. A specific quadrant can be switched off by press-
ing the arrow button for the corresponding quad-
rant.
4. Pressing the button again cancels the beam
shield. Repeat step 3 for each additional quadrant
in which you wish to activate the beam shield.
5. Press the SET button to save the beam shield
setting.
7.8 Checking the tool's accuracy
1. Check the accuracy of the tool in the X-axis and
Y-axis as follows:
7.8.1 Checking horizontal error 8
1. Set up a tripod at a distance of about 50 meters
(160 feet) from a wall. Mount the tool on the
tripod so that the side X1 faces the wall.
2. Switch the tool on. Wait until the auto leveling
procedure has ended. Check that inclination is set
to 0.000 %.
3. Set the receiver to maximum accuracy mode by
pressing the "tolerance" button.
4. Bring the receiver into position so that the ro-
tating laser beam is detected and indicated by
the horizontal bar and emission of a continuous
audible signal.
5. Mark the position and then switch the tool off.
6. Carefully release the clamping screw on the tripod,
pivot the tool through 180 degrees and then
retighten the clamping screw. When pivoting the
tool, take care to avoid altering its height and do
not move the mounting plate on the tripod out of
the horizontal plane.
