Answer
You can play DVD VIDEO discs with the Region Code
(local code) containing "ALL" or "4" recorded using the
NTSC or PAL formats. You can select "NTSC" or "PAL"
while using the PAL/NTSC switch on the rear panel.
The Region code indicates conformity to DVD standards.
Any DVD VIDEO which does not conform to the DVD
standards cannot be played.
No, the unit cannot display pictures in formats other than
JPEG.
is compatible with Dolby Digital. However, to get the
maximum performance of Dolby Digital EX, we
recommend to connect the DIGITAL OUT jack to a decoder
or amplifier/receiver with built-in decoder that supports
Dolby Digital EX. In this case, set "DIGITAL AUDIO
OUTPUT" on the "AUDIO" preference display to
"STREAM/PCM."
You cannot listen to the audio using the analog audio
outputs (AUDIO OUT). However, you can listen to DTS ES
audio by connecting the DIGITAL OUT jack to a decoder or
amplifier/receiver with built-in decoder that supports DTS
ES. In this case, set "DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT" on the
"AUDIO" preference display to "STREAM/PCM."
Yes you can. "THX" is the name of a standard for high
quality picture and audio recording, established by
Lucasfilm Ltd. The "THX" label on a disc certifies that it
meets this standard.
Discs like this are of the data CD format, not the Audio CD
format. The unit can play only the MP3 files.
Both are surround sound standards developed by Dolby
Laboratories Inc. in the U.S.A.
In Dolby Surround, two-channel surround audio
information is recorded onto the analog stereo (left and
right) channels together with front stereo audio
information. When played back, the surround signals are
separated by a Dolby Surround or Dolby Pro Logic
decoder.
Dolby Digital digitally encodes and records up to six
channels of information for left, right, center, rear left, rear
right and LFE (Low-Frequency Effect, for use with a
subwoofer).
When played back, a Dolby Digital decoder decodes the
data and outputs signals separately.
Generally, Dolby Digital sounds better.
This is block noise specific to a digitally recorded motion
picture. It is not a malfunction of the unit.
The operation of this unit may occasionally be
unacceptable due to the intention of the disc contents
creator and/or structural restrictions.
Most of all DVD VIDEO discs are copy-protected so that
you cannot record DVD VIDEO data onto any video tape.
