Test & Inspection Methods
GB
Introduction
This work method is used for guidance when
commissioning a stairlift and completing the
Certificate of Test and Examination after the
stairlift is installed.
Section 1— Description
b) Enter details:
Contract or order reference number e.g.
99390
The chair serial number
The carriage serial number
Fit correct weight sticker to carriage
c)
label from label pack.
d) Check that the motor tested label is
present on the motor.
Section 2— Electrical Tests
a) Measure AC supply across the live and
neutral terminals at the charger supply
input.
b) Measure battery voltage.
c) Carry out functional test to confirm current
overload device trips effectively.
d) Electronic trip time (maximum 3 seconds).
f) Fuse rating (max 2 Amps).
g) Check polarity at spur or the incoming
mains supply.
h) Carry out a continuity test to ensure the 0
volt wire is mechanically and electrically
connected to the rail.
i)
Check polarity of battery connections.
j)
Enter mains AC supply frequency (Hz) for
the appropriate country.
l)
Motor reversal delay (min 3 seconds).
Section 3—Battery Tests
a) Measure battery charge voltage.
b) Delete as necessary.
c) Delete as necessary.
d) Test battery charge condition using the
four volt drop principle.
e) Visually check for any leaks or corrosion.
f) Check off charge indicator operates.
Section 4 — Mechanical/Operation Test
Switch Operation
a)
Delete as necessary.
b)

d) Delete as necessary.
e) Delete as necessary.
f) Test and verify the function of the
overspeed governor and safety gear. Refer
to page 27 for work method.
g) All electrical safety devices function
correctly.
h) With downside safety pad removed, press
retractable rail safety pad switch whilst
placing a downward call. Ensure carriage
stops.
i)
With all carriage covers fitted, ensure that
the retractable rail safety arm stops the
carriage before carriage clashes with the
retractable rail. Refer to PDN/ 15/6367
j)
Check that retractable rail clutch allows it
to be manually raised.
Component Functioning
k) Record the stopping distance (must not
exceed 20mm).
l)
Check operation of carriage control
buttons.
m) Confirm the tested mark is present on the
overspeed governor assembly.
n) Carry out Installation overload testing.
Refer to index on page 3 for work method.
o) Confirm carriage and Retractable rail
alarms and warning LED operate.
p) Delete as necessary.
q) Where 2 stairlifts are fitted on the same
staircase, ensure that there is a minimum
clearance of 500mm between adjacent
footrests when unfolded.
r)
Delete as necessary
s) Delete as necessary
t)
Confirm that hazard warning labels where
supplied are fitted to carriage and
retractable rail.
u) Record footrest heights.
v) Record seat heights
5—Confirmation
The stairlift user must be fully instructed on the
use of the stairlift, including the emergency
handwinding procedures. All operating
instructions should be handed over to the user
on completion.
Section 6—Declaration
This section must be completed in fully using
the distributor's address and signed.
On completion of the final test and
examination and completion of the test
certificate, affix the warning labels to the
carriage assembly. This is important to
ensure compliance with CE directives.
