1. General information

The SR 570 Face Shield can be used together with the SR 500
Powered Air-Purifying Respirator system of components to
provide respiratory protection against certain particulates,
organic vapors, acid gases and other inorganic gases. Refer
to the NIOSH Approval Label for a list of approved components
and NIOSH cautions and limitations. Before use, these user
instructions and those for the SR 500 PAPR, cartridges and
filters be thoroughly studied and understood.
Breathing air is supplied to the respiratory protection inlet
covering face shield from a breathing hose connected to the
fan unit containing the appropriate canisters or filters. The
pressure generated in the face shield prevents particles and
other pollutants from entering. The face shield can be used
in all situations for which an air-purifying respirator is recom-
mended. This applies particularly to work that is hard, warm
or of long duration.
The SR 570 face shield protects the breathing zone, the crown
of the head and provide eye protection (ANSI Z87.1-2015). It
contains a hinged visor unit and scratch resistant and chemi-
cal resistant polycarbonate visor. The supply air flow keeps
the visor demisted and the airflow deflector can be directed
towards visor or face for optimal comfort. An adjustable head
harness allows for fit adjustments to improve fit and comfort.
The flexible breathing hose is replaceable. The face shield
is equipped with an exhalation valve that improves comfort
and reduces the buildup of carbon dioxide. The face shield is
available in one size and offers optional peel-offs, head-cover
and have side slot for hearing protection.

Limitations
• If the face seal is not firmly in contact with the face, the
pressure necessary for maintaining the correct protection
factor will not be established.
• If the user is exposed to very high work intensity, a partial
vacuum may occur in the device during the inhalation phase,
which may involve the risk of leakage into the head-top.
• The protection factor may be reduced if the equipment is
used in surroundings in which high wind speeds occur.
• The seal of the head-top against the face must be assured.
This may be difficult to achieve if the user has a beard or
sideburns.
• Be aware that the breathing hose might make a loop and
get caught up by something in your surrounding.
• Never lift or carry the equipment by the breathing hose.

2. Safety Precautions

The user must read and follow all User Instructions supplied
with the SR 500 Powered Air-Purifying Respirator, respiratory
protection inlet covering, canister, filter or supplied air equip-
ment. Incorrect operation of the SR 500 PAPR or supplied air
system could result in reduced airflow, interruption of airflow
to the respiratory protection inlet covering or contamination of
breathing air. For proper use: see supervisor, respirator pro-
gram manager, User Instructions, or for technical support call
Sundström in the U.S.A. and Canada at 1- 877- SUNDSTROM.
Failure to understand and observe the following warn-
ings and limitations may adversely affect respirator
performance and result in sickness or death
Do not use with parts or accessories other than those manu-
factured by Sundström as described in these User Instructions,
the SR 500 Powered Air-Purifying Respirator User Instructions,
or on the NIOSH Approval Label for the SR 500 PAPR system.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration
(OSHA) Standard 29 CFR 1910.134 and the Canadian CSA
Standard Z94.4 require a written respirator program and
appropriate training before occupational use of this respirator.
Do not use the respiratory protection inlet covering and the
SR 500 Powered Air-Purifying Respirator in atmospheres for
which they were not designed or certified by NIOSH including:
- Oxygen deficient or enriched atmospheres.
- Where contaminant concentrations are unknown or are
Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH).
- Where maximum contaminant concentrations mandated by
specific government standards are exceeded.
