Timing belt replacement on Fiat twin camshaft 2.0 20v. petrol engines requires the engine to be removed from the vehicle.
The crankshaft is positioned at TDC using DT.4519 TDC Position Tool together with a suitable DTI to determine the TDC position in No. 1 cylinder, in exactly the
same way as 1.8 16v. engines.
Camshafts are retained in 'timed' position by Setting Plates which are fi xed in place of designated camshaft bearing caps at a specifi ed cylinder.

DT.4519 Crankshaft TDC Position Tool (use with suitable DTI-Dial Gauge)
On 2.0 20v. and 2.0 20v Turbo engines DT.4519 TDC Positioning Tool is fi tted and used in exactly the same way as when used on 1.8 16v. engines – refer to
the earlier 1.8 16v. section.

DT.4530 Camshaft Setting Plate Set (BLACK) – 2.0 20v.
DT.4531 Camshaft Setting Plate Set (PURPLE) – 2.0 20v. Turbo
- Refer to Application Chart for details of models/engines. It is essential that the correct Camshaft Setting Plate Set is used – ENGINE
DAMAGE WILL RESULT IF INCORRECT PLATES ARE USED.
Cam Setting Plates are bolted in position in place of designated bearing caps on both the inlet and exhaust camshafts. Each Setting Plate is machined to provide
the exact profi le and 'timed' position of the camshaft lobe at the designated bearing location. – WARNING: 2.0 20v ENGINES USE A DIFFERENT
CYLINDER SEQUENCE TO 1.8 16v. ENGINES.
Refer to the Application Chart to select the appropriate Setting Plate Set for the 2.0 20v. or 2.0 20v Turbo engine.
Attach Plate marked "Inlet" to the inlet camshaft in place of the bearing cap of cylinder No. 3.
Attach Plate marked "Exh" to the exhaust camshaft in place of the bearing cap of cylinder No. 2.
When removing the camshaft bearing caps, clearly mark which is the inlet and exhaust and keep clean at all times. When installing Cam Setting Plates use
DT.4518 Retaining Bolts. When subsequently re-fi tting bearing caps, using original bolts, tighten to specifi ed torque (15Nm).
Once crank and camshaft timing positions are 'locked', the old belt is removed and both camshaft sprockets are released and free to turn on camshafts.
WARNING: DO NOT use Camshaft Setting Plates to hold camshafts in position whilst releasing or tightening the sprocket bolts. Use
suitable Sprocket Holding Tool – DT.CLE.
The new belt is fi tted and initially the timing belt tension is adjusted to maximum, using a screwdriver as a lever.
After tightening the camshaft sprocket bolts, remove all tools and rotate engine twice, by hand, returning to TDC position. Ensure timing marks align at TDC,
adjust tensioner to operating position.
