Addition of antifreeze:
Antifrogen N (from Clariant; http://www.clariant.com) is the recommended antifreeze. The
mixing ratio must lie in the range 20% < antifreeze < 30%.
This ensures protection against frost down to at least -10 °C.
There is an increased risk of corrosion if less than 20% antifreeze is added. The
addition of more than 30% antifreeze impairs heat transmission and thus the
function of the motor. In any case, it must be noted that the addition of antifreeze
changes the kinematic viscosity of the cooling water, and the pump power
therefore has to be adjusted.
Condensation on the motors as a result of undercooling must be prevented. The
temperature of the cooling water may have to be regulated.
Suitability for the tropics:
The high humidity and temperatures in tropical countries may cause condensation on the
cooling water pipes. This can be prevented by using heaters in the cooling circuit to control
the temperature of the cooling water, this prevents the dew-point temperature being
reached, and humidity condensing.
Anti-corrosion agent:
We recommend using a corrosion inhibitor for the cooling circuit, for example NALCO
00GE056 corrosion protection made by ONDEO Nalco (www.ondeonalco.com).
Concentration of the corrosion inhibitor in the cooling water 0.1...0.14%.
The cooling water should be checked three months after the first filling of the cooling circuit
and then annually. If appreciable clouding, discoloration or germination can be seen in the
cooling water, the cooling circuit must be flushed and refilled. An inspection glass should be
fitted in the cooling circuit to facilitate checking the cooling water.
Water-water heat exchanger:
If there is already a cooling circuit in the system that does not lead to any temperatures
above the maximum permissible coolant temperature for the motors, but does not fulfill the
requirements of the cooling water, then both cooling circuits can be coupled via a water-
water heat exchanger.
The motors are connected via a distributor so that the necessary flow rate is ensured but no
impermissible pressure occurs. Conditions such as height differences and distances have
to be taken into account.

against frost. VARIDOS TOP is an organic corrosion inhibitor that has been specifically
designed for half-open and closed cooling systems. It acts as a corrosion prevention agent
for the metals used by forming a protective organic film on the metal surfaces.
