IMPORTANT:
For boat rental businesses, horse dealers etc., towing a boat or horse trailer constitutes
commercial goods transportation within the framework of the business activity.
The decisive factor is therefore the concrete purpose of the journey. It may be necessary to
prove that transportation is for non-commercial purposes.
Furthermore, the responsible national authorities may grant exemption upon application for:
- Vehicles used within 50 km of the vehicle's registration address (Including districts of which
the centre is located within this area) for transporting material or equipment needed by the
driver in his work or business (the precondition is that driving the vehicle is not the driver's
main activity), or vehicles used for transporting goods of agricultural, horticultural, forestry
or fishery businesses.
-
Vehicles used for transporting animal waste or animal carcasses not intended for human
consumption.
-
Vehicles used for transporting living animals from farms to local markets and back, or from
markets to the local abattoirs.
-
Private transportation of horses in licence-free sport trailers is exempted from the stated
EU regulation.
- Vehicles used as sales vehicles at local markets or for itinerant sales, for lending books and
records or for travelling exhibitions and which are specially equipped for these purposes.
If, however, you want to use a vehicle with trailer for commercial transportation of goods, we
advise you not to exceed the permissible total weight of the vehicle including trailer of 3,5 t by
selecting a light trailer. Furthermore, there is the possibility of reducing the permissible total
weight of an existing trailer without constructional measures, i.e. of altering this information in
the trailer certificate and/or on the type label.
