Replacing the diaphragms (version 684m) /
5
Piston seal (version 684k) (Fig. b and Fig. c)
1. Lift up hand wheel, loosen spring by turning the hand wheel counterclockwise.
2. Unscrew the spring cover (DN 8-DN25) and flange screws (DN40 and DN50)
evenly.
3. Version with diaphragms (Fig. b): remove spring cover (1), spring (2), sleeve (3,
not for DN40 and DN50) and diaphragm plate (4) with diaphragms (5); Version
with pistons (fig. c): remove piston plate (6) and sleeve (7) with pistons (8).
4. Place new diaphragms on diaphragm plate, or replace piston seals (9) and (10)
and supporting ring (11), while ensuring the correct order (Fig. c). Moisten seals
with a lubricant compatible with the sealant (e.g. Elkalub GLS 993).
5. Assembly: first place the diaphragm with diaphragm plate and then the sleeve
into the body or place the sleeve for pistons into the body, ensuring the O-ring
seal (12) between the sleeve and the body. Insert pistons into the sleeve, place
the piston plate on the pistons.
6. Mount the spring cover with spring, screwing the spring cover by hand, tighte-
ning the flange screws (for DN40 and DN50) evenly with a torque of 30 +2Nm.

Conversion to "without secondary pressure relief"
If a valve is to be converted from "S" (with secondary pressure relief) to "O" (wit-
hout secondary pressure relief), the diaphragm plate (4) on 684m (diaphragm versi-
on) or the pistons (8) on 684k (piston version) have to be replaced. Order conversion
set "SO" or "OS" and proceed according to point 5 of these instructions.

Replacing the taper (Fig. d)
1. Loosen the bottom lid (13) with a two-hole spanner, remove return spring (14)
and taper (15).
2. Moisten the seal of the new taper with a lubricant compatible with the sealant
(e.g. Elkalub GLS 993). Install taper and return spring.
3. Refit the lid and tighten it by hand with the two-hole spanner.

"Ducted exhaust" version (Fig. e)
This function may be required if the gas escaping through the secondary pressure
relief is to be conducted away in a specific manner. A hose with an inner diameter of
4mm and outer diameter of 6mm can be connected into the quick-release fastener
(16).
