For a sailboat with a better upwind angle (e.g.: 40° to the wind), facing the upper
index you will read 50° starboard tack and 130° port tack.
2. Favored side of the line:
• Position your boat facing the wind (windward), sails luffing, and check the wind
axis digit on the onboard compass.
• On your watch, turn the graduated compass bezel to position the wind axis digit
on the arrow index at 12 o'clock.
