4.2 QUICK START GUIDE
If the device is off, turn it on by depressing the power button.
Measuring Blood Pressure and Pulse Rate Automatically
Wrap an appropriately sized cuff snugly around the upper arm midway between the elbow and shoulder.
Ask the patient to stay still and quiet before taking the measurement.
Press the automatic button on your unit. The cuff begins to inflate and the cuff pressure is shown in the systolic display.
In about 30-40 seconds, depending on the size of the cuff, you will hear a beep to indicate cycle completion. The systolic and
diastolic values are shown in their respective locations. If MAP mode is enabled, the pulse rate and MAP values will alternate.
Measuring Blood Pressure Using Manual mode
a.) Wrap an appropriately sized cuff snugly around the upper arm midway between the elbow and shoulder.

4.3 SETTING UP THE RIESTER ri-medic

As a clinically trained professional using the Riester ri-medic, your responsibilities include safeguarding your patients, your-
self and your equipment. Many setup functions will be performed either only once or very occasionally, and it is important
that you pay close attention. Before you set up your Riester ri-medic, please review these safety guidelines.
b.) Protecting Your Patient
While your Riester ri-medic is designed for accurate, reliable vital signs measurement for adults and children, it is not to be
used on patients connected to cardiopulmonary bypass machines, patients needing continuous monitoring, or patients under
three years of age. If you feel that a particular blood pressure reading is questionable, use the Riester ri-medic and your
stethoscope to take a second, Manual mode reading. Arrange the power supply and cabling so that it does not constitute a
hazard to your patient, your co-workers or yourself.
c.) Protecting Yourself
Opening the device can cause electric shocks. Do not attempt to service your Riester ri-medic unless you are authorized.
