The Smashweld 316 and Smashweld 316 Topflex units are supplied for a connection to a power main of 440
V. In case the power voltage is different, the primary connections should be modified as indicated in the
electric diagrams (pages 16 and 17). The left side panel can be removed to gain direct access to the
terminal bar to the primary connections. It is also necessary to alter the connection of the auxiliary
transformer.
The earth terminal is connected to the chassis of the unit. It should be
connected to an efficient earth point of the main power installation. DO
NOT connect the earth conductor of the input cable to any of the bornes
of the ON/OFF switch. This puts the machine chassis under electric
voltage hazard.
All the electric connections should be completely tightened to avoid risk of sparkling, overheating, or
voltage drops in the circuits.
NOTE: DO NOT USE THE MAIN POWER NEUTRAL FOR THE
EARTH CONNECTION
6.4) Feed rollers (for Smashweld 316 andWire Feeder)
The wire speed mechanism of the Smashweld 316 and wire feeder assembly has a pressure roller for all
wire types and diameters and a feed rollers which should be changed according to the wire type and
diameter. See table 6.2 below.

To install a feed roller of the wire:
1) Open the supporting arm of the pressure roller.
2) Remove the shaft screw of the feed roller.
3) Put the roller which corresponds to the wire to be used in the shaft; a roller has two grooves, each for a
different wire diameter; the roller should be positioned so that the graving corresponding to the wire
gauge used can be visualized by the operator.
4) Put the screw back and tighten it; the roller should not have any looping on its shaft.
5) Close the arm and adjust the pressure of the pressure roller on the wire.
6.5) MIG/MAG Gun
ESAB S/A supplies, optionally, several welding guns according to the projected applications; they are
connected directly in the euro connector socket. Se accessories.
