• Inspect Electrical Connectors for:
* Corrosion on pins
* Bent or damaged pins.
* Contacts not properly seated in housing.
* Bad wire crimps to terminals.
Problems with connectors are common in the engine control system.
Inspect carefully. Note: that some connectors use a special grease on the
contacts to prevent corrosion. Do not wipe off! Obtain extra grease, if
needed, from your vehicle dealer. It is a special type for this purpose.
3.) Plug Tester into the DLC
• Refer to connector location in Section 2 if
needed.
• Connect the OBD II Diagnostic Tester to the
vehicle's 16 pin J1962 DLC connector.
• The tester can not harm the vehicle.
4.) Tester Self-Test
• Once the tester is properly connected to the
DLC, it will perform a Self-Test.
All segments of the numeric display and all four
LEDs will light momentarily during the test.
• After the Self-Test has passed the numeric
display will show a 0 in the right most place.
- If you fail to get the above mentioned results,
refer to Section 5: Trouble-Shooting Tips.
6.) Continue to testing
After completing all steps in this section, continue to Section 4: Using the
Tester.
