5.2.2.1
Data sending on-line
Code 44 98: Convertor module RS 485 / USB for the communication of MultiMeter 44 with
RS 485 output with a PC. It includes the union cable to MultiMeter 44 (cable 3 in the
example).
The MultiMeter 44 code version 44 93 has a RS 485 interface that can be used to connect
multiple instruments to each other and communicate with a PC. Under "Configure
Computer" appears the "RS 485" option that lets the user program the desired RS485
communication type (see measurement data)
Specifications: Baud rate: 9600. Word length: 8 bits. Stop bits: 1 bit. Parity: none
1. From the main menu select
2. Select
RS 485 COMUNICATION
3. Select the desired format for the data, refer to
The data reception to PC is carried out by the application MM-485, included in code 44 98
(converter module RS 485/ USB).
MultiMeter 44 always intents sending data. Their reception on-line depends if the PC has
the communication activated. MultiMeter 44 sends the prepared data every time there is a
permission from the computer.
MultiMeter 44 sends the data with the frequency selected in "Data Logger, Capture
interval" (see

permission. All sent data are in ASCII format.
If the PC does not give a permission before MultiMeter 44 captures a new data in the Data
Logger, the previous capture will not be send.
Permission for MultiMeter 44 to send data
The computer gives permission to a instrument for data sending. The permission massage
has the following format:
STX, T, <Serial number of the instrument>, LF, CR, ETX
Where
T: letter T. Value hexadecimal 54 (84 decimal).
<Serial number of the instrument>: 5 numeric digits ASCII corresponding to the serial number of
the instrument.
MultiMeter 44 response when there are not data
The instruments sends a special message to the computer to indicate that it does not have
any data. The message format is:
STX, R, <Serial number of the instrument>, LF, CR, ETX
Where:
T: letter R. Value hexadecimal 52 (82 decimal).
<Serial number of the instrument>: 5 numeric digits ASCII corresponding to the serial number of
the instrument.
Data request from PC
The computer asks to the instrument to send the measurement data of the 3 channels:
STX, $, <Instrument serial number>, LF, CR, ETX
Where:
