Preparation for measurement

.1

Vehicle

!
Observe safety notes!
R
The engine must be warm (according to
manufacturer's specifications).
R
No leaks in exhaust line.
R
Engine settings such as, for example idle speed,
start of delivery, fuel quantity and stop for full-load
delivery must meet manufacturer specifications.
.2
RTM
i
The RTM 430 has a warm-up time of 4 minutes after
switch on. Exhaust measurements cannot be made
during this period.
i
To ensure that the exhaust measurement is perfor-
med correctly the RTM 430 must not be positioned
directly in the exhaust-gas stream (directly in front of
the exhaust). The exhaust sample hose must not be
kinked!
1. Before the measurement the exhaust sample probe
and the exhaust sample hose must be checked for
signs of damage and clogging.
2. If available, fit the hose for exhaust-gas recirculation
(special accessories) on the connecting pipe (Fig. 1;
Pos. 5) of the RTM 430 and connect to the extraction
system.
i
In order to rule out wrong measurements, the suc-
tion output of the extraction system must not drop
below 20 m/s! Exhaust gas is to be extracted via an
extraction system with funnel only.
3. Replace the oil dipstick in the engine housing
with an oil temperature gauge. To do so, set the
sealing cone of the oil temperature gauge to the oil
dipstick's insertion depth.
4. Mount the wheel speed sensor and connect.
5. Do not insert the exhaust sample probe into the
exhaust pipe until the RTM 430 has warmed up and
only after several cleaning rev-ups of a warm engine.
