D. Fall arrest: When attached to the SRL, the worker is free to move about within recommended working areas
at normal speeds. The lifeline should extend smoothly and retract without hesitation. If slack line condition
is created in normal use the unit should be returned to DBI-SALA for service. Should a fall occur, the SRL
will lock and arrest the fall. Upon rescue, remove the SRL from use. Inspect as described in the Inspection
section. When working with the SRL, allow the lifeline to recoil back into the device under control. A short
tag line may be required to extend or retract the lifeline during connection and disconnection. Allowing the
lifeline to be fully extended for long periods of time may cause premature weakening of the retraction spring.
e. assisted rescue: In emergency situations, the Ultra-Lok RSQ SRL can be used to perform an assisted
rescue and lower the victim to safety. The rescuer can disengage Fall Arrest Mode and start and stop descent
with the Engagement Knob Pull Ring (Figure 8) or an optional Extension Pole Release Tool (Figure 9):
• engagement knob pull ring:
and pull the Engagement Knob straight out (8A). To stop descent; release the Pull Ring to re-engage Fall
Arrest Mode (8B). To fully engage Descent Mode so descent continues without pulling the Pull Ring, turn
the Engagement Knob counter-clockwise (8C) until the arrow on face of the knob points to the Descent
Selection Notch (see Figure 7A).
notE: 0.36 kN - 0.45 kN of pulling force is required to release the Engagement Knob from Fall Arrest
Mode.
• extension pole release tool:
of the Release Forks surround the base of the Engagement Knob below the Knurled Ridge and Pull Ring
(9A). To disengage Fall Arrest Mode and initiate descent, push forward on the Extension Pole until the
Engagement Knob is fully lodged between the Release Forks (9B). Descent will continue as long as the
Engagement Knob is fully inserted between the Release Forks. To stop descent, pull the Extension Pole
backward until the Engagement Knob re-engages Descent Mode (9C).
IMportant: The Release Forks on the Extension Pole Release tool are tapered to push the Engagement Knob
straight out as the forks are pushed forward on the knob. It is not necessary to pry the knob with the Extension
Pole. Prying could break off the knob.
inSpeCtion FreQUenCY: To ensure safe, efficient operation, the Ultra-Lok RSQ SRL should be inspected at the
following intervals:
• Before each Use: visually inspect the SRL per the Inspection steps defined in the next section.
• annually: A formal inspection of the SRL and its connection to the structure must be performed at least
annually by a competent person other than the user. The frequency of formal inspections should be based on
conditions of use or exposure. See the next section for Inspection Steps. Record the inspection results in the
Periodic Examination and Repair History in the "General Instructions for Use and Maintenance" (5902392),
or use the SRL's i-Safe™ RFID Tag (Figure 10) and i-Safe™ Reading Device to record information on the web
based portal.
IMportant: Extreme working conditions (harsh environment, prolonged use, etc.) may require increasing
the frequency of inspections.
• after Fall arrest: If the Ultra-Lok RSQ SRL has been subjected to a fall arrest or impact forces, it should be
removed from service and inspected per the Impact Indicator Inspection and Inspection Steps sections.
iMpaCt inDiCator inSpeCtion: The Ultra-Lok RSQ SRL is equipped with an Impact Indicator on the Lifeline
Hook (see Figure 11). Inspect the Hook for an exposed Red Band (11A). If the Red Band is not exposed, the Hook
is in Normal Mode (11B). If the Red Band is exposed, the Hook is in Indicated Mode (11C), indicating an impact
load has occurred. The SRL should be removed from service for inspection. DO NOT attempt to reset the Impact
Indicator. Return it to and authorized service center for resetting.
inSpeCtion StepS: Per the intervals defined in in Inspection Frequency, inspect the SRL as follows:
Step 1. Inspect for loose screws and bent or damaged parts.
Step 2. Inspect the SRL housing for distortion, cracks or other damage. Ensure the swivel eye is not damaged or
distorted in any way. Ensure the swivel eye turns freely.
Step 3. The lifeline must fully extend and retract without hesitation or creating a slack line condition.
Step 4. Ensure the SRL locks up when the lifeline is jerked sharply. Lock-up must be positive, with no slipping.
Step 5. The labels must be present and fully legible (see Labeling)
Step 6. Look for signs of corrosion on the entire unit.
Step 7. Inspect lifeline (Figure 12) for cuts, kinks (12A), broken wires (12B), bird-caging, corrosion (12C),
welding splatter (12D), chemical contact areas, or severely abraded areas (see Figure 12). Slide up the
lifeline bumper (Figure 10) and inspect ferrules for cracks or damage and inspect wire rope for corrosion
