The RT-88 test lead is designed specifically for testing
Ford 6G regulators with terminals marked:
"I"(L)-"__"(BLANK)-"A"(SENSE)
= STANDARD operation
"I"(L)-"GLI"(FR)-"A"(SENSE)
= STANDARD operation
"GEN-MON"(FR)-"GEN-COM"(SIG)-"A"(SENSE)
= SIGNAL operation
The RT-88 is used to test for the following:
• Basic regulator voltage regulation ability.
• "No Charge" indicator light function
(when used).
• Provides an appropriate digital SIGNAL to
the "GEN-COM"(SIG) terminal (when used)
to operate the regulator at both normal
charging voltage (approx. 14.5 volts) and at
reduced voltage (approx. 13.5 volts).
• The test procedure also determines which version
"I"(L)-"__"(BLANK)-"A"(SENSE),
"I"(L)-"GLI"(FR)-"A"(SENSE) and
"GEN-MON"(FR)-"GEN-COM" (SIG)-"A"(SENSE)
of regulator was tested if the terminal markings are
unknown.
NOTE: IT CAN NOT DETERMINE THE VERSION OF
AN UNKNOWN REGULATOR IF THE REGULATOR IS
NOT OPERATIONAL.
Some of the Ford regulators have capabilities beyond
simply controlling alternator voltage. They "interact"
with the vehicle. Therefore the RT-88 test lead is a
multi-function lead with sucessive steps to be followed
and indicators to be monitored.
