Assistance in an Emergency
In rescue situations, a user whose apparatus is equip-
ped with the Quick-Fill System can be helped quickly.
In case a person is prevented from a timely retreat and
his air supply is becoming exhausted, a second person
with another full cylinder can help him. It is only neces-
sary to connect this compressed air cylinder which is
equipped with the filling connector Q to the filling line of
the apparatus carried by the person to be rescued.
After the pressure has equalized, the connection can
again be uncoupled. If cylinders of equal size are used,
the person has at least a cylinder that is half full.
If the connection remains coupled, the total air supply of
the new cylinder is available for the person who was
prevented from retreating.
Of course, help is also possible without the additional
cylinder if both apparatus are equipped with the Quick-
Fill System and they have a filling line.
4
Storage
All components of the Quick-Fill System should be
stored free of pressure, dry, clean and protected from
direct sunlight.
5
Malfunctions
In case of low ambient temperatures, due to the great
expansion cold, in rare cases leaks can occur at the
Quick-Fill coupling when uncoupling. In this case the
leak at the coupling can be sealed with the protective
cap or through new coupling to the filling line. If,
because of the back pressure, the power required is
excessive, close the cylinder valve briefly, push on the
protective cap or couple the filling line and then reopen
the cylinder valve.
If leaks occur also at room temperatures or the proper
functioning is not assured for other reasons, the
components concerned must be replaced immediately
by an authorized service center.

Safety Advice
• The Quick-Fill System may only be used by qualified
trained personnel after careful reading of these
Instructions for Use.
• An apparatus user, whose warning signal has already
been activated may not give away any of his air. In
such a case his retreat time would be drastically
reduced and he would endanger his own life.
• The Quick-Fill couplings must not be lubricated.
Contact with oil, grease and other chemicals must be
avoided.
• If uncoupled, the couplings must always be closed
with the protective caps to prevent foreign matter
from entering.
• The Quick-Fill lines and fittings are designed for
speedy filling of compressed air cylinders with breat-
hable air according to EN 132. Special care must be
taken that the permissible oil content (≈ 0.3 mg/m
and the moisture content in the air are not exceeded.
• During the Quick-Fill process the compression warms
up the air. When this cools, there are slight losses in
the amount of air, resp. in the duration (in the worst
case approx. 10 %).
• If, during filling, a leak occurs, filling must be stopped.

Recurring Tests
7.1
High Pressure Lines of the Quick-Fill System
According to German regulations (TRG 402, 9.90),
flexible lines must be tested for safe functioning as
required, but at least every twelve months. This must be
done by the manufacturer or an expert of the filling
center. The test includes the following:
1. Visual check of the outside condition and as far as
possible also the inside.
2. Pressure test with double of the highest operating
pressure.
7.1.1

Visual Check

In case of damage to the outside from heat, chemicals,
mechanical impact or similar that can be detected, the
components concerned must be replaced without delay
by an authorized service center.
7.1.2

Pressure Test

The pressure test is made with water at a pressure of
600 bar. The test pressure must be maintained for at
least 10 minutes. After the test the line must be blown
out with breathable air and carefully dried.
Attention:
For the pressure test with water the lines must be
disconnected from the couplings, resp. pressure
reducer. Couplings and pressure reducers in no case
must be filled with water!
Disassembly and reassemly of couplings and lines
may only be performed by trained apparatus mainte-
nance specialists according to the manual for the
basic apparatus.
7.1.3

Test Protocol

The expert of the filling center must prepare a protocol
about the tests. The protocol must contain the following:
1. Date of test,
2. Name of expert,
3. Type and marking of filling line (e.g. serial number of
pressure reducer and manufacturing date of filling
line),
4. Test agent,
5. Description of test method,
6. Discovered shortcomings and remarks on correcting
these.
The protocol must be kept on file.
7.2
Quick-Fill Couplings and Plugs
In the course of these tests, the couplings and plugs of
the Quick-Fill System should also be given a function
and tightness test. These tests may only be performed
with air and an operating pressure of 300 bar. It is
recommended to make a tightness test of the complete
system including the lines after the test of the lines at
600 bar.
