Field of Application
The zero gravity balancer of type 7228 is used for counter-
balancing the weight of hand-guided tools (such as power
drills, taps or screwdrivers) in order to relieve supply lines
such as cables and hoses.
General Information
The zero gravity balancer of type 7228 significantly facilita-
tes the handling and use of hand-guided tools. The retracti-
on forces remain almost constant across the entire cable
extension range.
The load ranges differ for the various balancer models. The
appropriate range is indicated on the rating plate (1) in each
case.

Safety Instructions
No changes may be made on the zero gravity balancer of
type 7228 or its accessories without the express written
permission of the manufacturer.
The safe use of this product is only ensured if you have
fully read these operating and safety instructions and
strictly follow them during work.
The balancer may only be operated, installed, serviced
and repaired by qualified and specially trained personnel.
These persons must have been informed about the
potential risks associated with performing these tasks.

Disassembling the spring housing is extremely dange-
rous and therefore strictly forbidden.
Unhook a load only when the cable is fully retracted!
The balancer's cable must be checked for potential
damage at regular intervals. Never use a balancer when
the cable is defective!
The suspension, the anti-crash safety device and the
safety chain must be monitored continuously (DIN
15020, Part 2). If damage or wear is detected, withdraw
the balancer from service at once!
Note that any snapping back of the cable in no-load con-
dition is extremely dangerous for anyone and would also
destroy the spring. The maximum load specified on the
rating plate (1) must never be exceeded!
Except for cable replacement, the spring tension must
be fully released before performing any service or repair
work (see "Replacing the Spring").
Installation & Use
Prior to installing the zero gravity balancer, verify that the
suspension structure to which the balancer is fastened pro-
vides adequate stability.
Balancers with a plastic housing must not be installed in the
immediate vicinity of hot-air blowers.
If the balancer is used for operating welding tongs, an insu-
lated suspension is required due to the leakage currents
involved (see VDE 0100, Section 19, and VDE 0545).
Installation
The zero gravity balancer includes an anti-crash safety devi-
ce (3) that acts as a fall breaker designed to prevent a dan-
gerous drop to the ground (in acc. with DIN 15112
requirements). To this end, the supplied safety chain (4)
must be securely anchored independently of the balancer's
regular suspension, thereby ensuring that the potential fal-
ling distance does not exceed the maximum limit of 100
mm. Please verify that the safety chain's suspension struc-
ture also provides the necessary mechanical strength and
stability.
Note, however, that the proper functioning of the system is
guaranteed only if this additional safety device does not
interfere in any way with the balancer's working range,
which latter must always be sufficient to allow the balancer
to respond freely to any pull of the cable.
A safety chain strained by a falling balancer must be repla-
ced at once, together with the balancer's housing.
