14. If necessary, use bending tools to adapt the brace to the patient's leg
shape (Figure 7).
Setting Range Of Motion
Extension can be limited at: -10°, 0°, 20°, 30°, 40°, 50°, 60°, 70°, 80°, 90°.
Flexion can be limited at: 10°, 20°, 30°, 40°, 50°, 60°, 70°, 80°, 90°, 100°,
110°, 120°.
Adjust ROM as follows (Figure 8):
Extension: Pull the black extension button up and set the angle.
Flexion: Pull the white flexion button up and set the angle.
Release a button to let it click into place. Put the stop locks onto the
buttons to secure them.
Immobilizing the Knee
Use the drop lock to fully immobilize the knee. It can be set at -10°, 0°,
10°, 20°, 30° of flexion. An arrow shows the angle. The angle is shown by
the scale on the strut, below the hinge.
Adjust immobilization as follows (Figure 9):
1. Push the blue drop-lock button up to unlock the hinge.
2. Move the brace until the arrow and the correct angle agree.
3. Push the blue drop-lock button down to lock the hinge angle.
Doffing the Brace
1. Unfasten the straps and the foam pads.
2. Remove the brace (Figure 10a, 10b). You can put it back on again fully
assembled.
SHORTENING THE BRACE
If necessary, the 24" and 28" braces can be shortened to 16".
WARNING: Only shorten the brace if ordered by the treating doctor.
Shortening the brace reduces the function of the brace.
To shorten the two braces, break off the distal and proximal ends of the
struts at the seams. Use the shortening kit for a cool foam brace. If you
shorten a full foam brace, you only need to trim the foam pads.
Shorten the struts as follows:
1. Remove the brace from the patient.
2. Fully remove the straps and foam pads from the struts.
3. Put a strut on a table.
4. Align a seam with the edge of the table.
5. Hold the strut tight and break off at the seam (Figure 11).
6. Repeat for the other end.
Full Foam
1. Make sure the edges are smooth. If necessary, use a file to round the
edges.
2. If necessary, use scissors to trim the foam pads.
3. Assemble the brace again (refer to "Donning the Brace" above).
