Introduction

Following the recommendations given here will result in a long-
er lifetime and a better performance of your anchor windlass.
- Make sure the battery voltage is correct.
- Limit the voltage drop in the battery cables by using suf-
ficiently sized cables.
- Carry out the prescribed maintenance regularly.
- Only use chain of the type and size which is suitable for the
gipsy.

Operating

Letting go of the chain manually

Free the chain from the chainstopper (K).
Uncouple the gipsy (G) by turning the clutch nut (C) 1 turn
anticlockwise.
Release the brake (B) from the gipsy (G) and the anchor chain
will run out. Tighten the brake (B) in order to stop. Secure the
gipsy (G) by tightening up the clutch nut (C) again and secure
the chain with the chainstopper (K).
Never anchor the ship with the chain only secured in the
gipsy (G).
The chainstopper (K) is not supplied as standard.

Letting go of the chain using the electric motor

N.B. The chain can only be let out using the electric motor if this
is connected using 2 switches/relays so that the motor can be
switched to run in both directions.
Free the chain from the chainstopper (K).
Make sure that the clutch nut (C) is tightened, turn clockwise.
Turn the brake (B) until it is free.
Switch on the electric motor in order to let out the chain using a
foot operated or hand operated switch.
Be aware that the hauling drum (D) will also turn.
After letting out the chain tighten up the brake (B) and secure
the chain with the chainstopper (K).
Never anchor the ship with the chain only secured in the
gipsy (G).
