Maintenance Safety Rules

General
 Do not operate or perform maintenance upon or make adjustments to this
equipment while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, prescription, or other
intoxicating substances! It is against the law to do so!
 Do not smoke while handling fuel or performing maintenance on this
equipment. Do not re-fuel while engine is running.
 Maintenance procedures must be done only by persons who
thoroughly understand all provisions of this equipment manual.
Before Maintenance
 Never perform any maintenance on the Thomas Bankout until the power is
turned off, the key has been removed, the dump bin is properly supported with
the safety prop, and proper Lockout/Tagout procedures have been followed.
 Never conduct service, inspection, or repair while vehicle is running.
 Do not perform service, repair, or maintenance operations on this equipment
unless engine is stopped, wheels blocked, and parking brake firmly applied.
(Certain transmission checks may require that engine be
temporarily started and run at idle.)
 Do not perform service, repair, or inspection duties under
raised cargo dump box until safety prop is properly in
place. Safety prop is located under cargo dump box on
driver's side of vehicle. (see diagram)
Hydraulic Maintenance
 When working on high-pressure systems, take care to
relieve line pressure slowly in order to prevent serious
injury to eyes or skin. Before repressurizing high-
pressure systems, ensure that connections are tight and
lines are not damaged and leaking.
 Do not feel for high-pressure leaks with hands; wear
gloves or use an object such as piece of cardboard. High-pressure fluids are
capable of piercing skin or eye tissue, causing serious damage and poisoning.
 If any fluid is injected into the skin it must be surgically
removed by a doctor who is familiar with this type of injury or
gangrene could result.
 If injured by high-pressure fluids of any type, obtain medical
help immediately!
